Nakeshia Nickerson

Nakeshia Nickerson was born in Cleveland, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University for studies in Psychology and Japanese. While in college, she began writing encouraging stories and poems for young adults. In 2005, she turned to a focus in children’s fiction on sensitive and important issues after she began writing bedtime story’s and poems for her nephews about a group of friends who live on a street called Tulvia Lane. Even after they grew past adolescence, for eight years, Nakeshia continued writing her ideas and concepts for the Tulvia Lane stories, eventually developing a multibook children’s series. Those years she took care and time to ensure the series was viable and based with sound psychology teachings. In 2013, Nakeshia published the first book from the series named “Gammie”, the book became an instant success. With each subsequent year the book’s sales continues to grow exponentially, encouraging the release of more books in the series. Since penning her books, she has published articles on Thrive Global, Arianna Huffington’s behavior change, health and wellness site and has been featured by Kirkus Review, Publishers Weekly, Jack and Jill of America, News channel 5, News channel 8 and various schools and libraries. Nakeshia Nickerson now writes full-time. She lives in Cleveland, Ohio with her family.

T oday is the last day of 5 th grade at Pepper Falls Elementary with only two hours left, and I can’t wait! Mr. Blunger, my teacher, is at the front of the class saying something, but I’m way too excited to listen to anything. Instead, I’m watching the clock closely, counting every second that passes. Hey, Kylie, what are you going to say when you get up there? my friend Ally leans over to whisper. I start to frown, knowing whatever she just said is going to dampen my excitement. What are you talking about, Ally? I reply. Mr. Blunger wants us to stand at the front of the class and read our assignment, telling everyone what our summer plans are. So … what are you gonna say? OMG! I thought, starting to panic. I hope he doesn’t call me first. I don’t think I can make up an amazing summer adventure in the next two minutes. Hmmm, let’s see—there has to be something I can say. Oh, I know! I’ll tell everyone I’m going to Egypt! And that I’m going to learn to do gymnastics like Gabby Douglas! Yeah, I bet that’s waaay cooler than everyone else’s plans. Aww, no—I can’t say that. I know everyone
