One summer day, a long, long time ago, probably when your own grandpa was a small boy, a grandpa turned his car onto a driveway and stopped. He got out and called,
Who’s ready for an adventure?
I’m ready, Grandpa—I’m ready!
cried a small boy as he ran out of the house and jumped down the front steps in his hurry to greet his grandpa. His grandpa scooped him up and hugged him tight.
Good grief, young man, I swear that you grow every time I turn around. Just like bread dough, you are—I don’t see you for a week and you rise!
The boy laughed—his grandpa loved to say that.
The grandpa laughed, too. Well then,
he said, grab your duffel bag and your fishing gear, kiss your mother. Let’s be off on our adventure!
The boy ran to hug and kiss his mother where she stood on the porch, grabbed his duffel bag and fishing rod and jumped into the shiny silver Chevy.
