Introduction
Throughout the hallways every Friday, saints and sinners alike could be heard echoing, TGIF
(Thank God it’s Friday).
While conversations of weekend plans were being discussed at the water cooler, I was eagerly waiting for the short hand to land on 5 and the big hand to land on 12.
My Friday night ritual was an all—night shut-in
with my girlfriends. It was my special time of the week to spend some me time
with God and my girlfriends. My girlfriends and I were passionately in love with Christ, and He graciously blessed us with many of the Gifts of the Spirit that operated through each of us.
At the shut-in, we prayed, we praised, we laughed, we cried, we testified, and we shared our struggles. The Holy Spirit never disappointed; He showed up and showed out every shut-in.
In sharing our struggles, no one was ashamed or embarrassed to display her scars. Our scars were a testament that we know Christ, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings.
Before we stretched out on the floor before the Lord to begin intercessory prayer, we had the chance to ask the group to pray for a specific need in our lives. It seemed as if each week, I asked for prayer regarding the problems I was facing at work. On occasion, before I would bring up work, someone would ask how things were going on the job.
The shut-in provided a safe haven, and I took full advantage of the opportunity to let it all hang out
when it came to disclosing the issues I was facing at work.
One Friday night when I arrived for the shut-in, the work drama had taken its toll. It was visible on my face and in my spirit. As always, my girlfriends had a listening ear. After a while, it was time to forget about work, clear our minds, and began intercessory prayer.
The night seemed to slip quickly as the burst of daylight through the windows beckoned that morning had arrived and it was time to end the shut-in. Slowly, we rose from the floor with our faces lit with a brilliance that denoted we had been in the presence of the Lord.
As we were scurrying to tidy up the place, one of my girlfriends said to me, The Lord showed me a vision related to your struggles at work.
The vision she shared was this: "I was standing in an open field, dressed in office attire. People began to gather around me with shovels and, soon, I was standing in the middle of a large human circle. Everyone began to dig what appeared to be a ditch around me. As they scooped the earth in their shovels, they tossed the dirt on me.
When the dirt hit me, it fell from me to the ground, and I stepped on top of it and flattened it under my feet. The people digging the ditch were consumed with their task and never took the time to look at me when they threw the dirt.
At last, the people had thrown so much dirt on me, I was standing high on
