DEDICATION
THIS IS THE TIME AND place to celebrate the people who supported as well as contributed inspiration to both the ghost tour and this book making it possible for those endeavors to reach fruition.
Since so many people were extremely gracious to contribute bits and pieces to the content of this book, it would not be possible to name everyone. Also the various ways the assistance was contributed makes the individual acknowledgment of that participation impracticable. All the backing from the various sources was valued more than I can convey. I would have not been able to write as many varied and appealing stories without the kind consideration given to me. Some information was abundant and other sources provided tidbits but, every fragment added to the overall creation of the ghost tour and this book. Without all this participation, the endeavor would be far less comprehensive.
A special thank you to the many Historical Society members who gave me their complete support and often went beyond normal resources to provide me with needed facts.
I want to give a huge amount of acknowledgement to Moravian Church members who added to the commonly known historical facts of their church.
I am also indebted to the many people associated with our town of Emmaus who freely gave me their complete stories setting the foundation for the ghost tales. Of course without these accounts, there could not have been a Ghost Tour or a Legends, Myths and Ghost Tales from Emmaus book
.
All my family members were supportive of me in numerous ways thus contributing their part to culmination of the ghost tour and this book. My husband, Raymond, did my commissioned art work and assisted me with when I organized each ghost tour. My daughter, Lori, who was my confidant as well as my computer support as both the tour and the book became a reality. My daughter, Lisa, gave her concurrence as the project progressed as well as her financial advice. My son, Andrew, even though living in California, lent me his ear as the developing saga of this endeavor evolved. My departed son, David, I know would have been ready to give his opinion and advice on this entire venture.
It has been my pleasure to have been associated with the ghost tour and the legends, myths and ghost tales connected with Emmaus. The ghost tour is an abbreviated version of the accounts chronicled in the book. While on the tour, you are able to experience the historical tidbits and paranormal activity close to the original locations. The book is a tangible confirmation as well as a permanent reference for all the information acquired on the tour.
Introduction
EARLY IN THE YEAR OF 2011, I started looking for information and facts for a historical/ghost tour in our town of Emmaus. Historical information was rather abundant but ghost stories were virtually non—existent except for the Knauss Homestead ghost, Elizabeth. That ghost has been documented. While seeking historical facts, several other ghosts have surfaced. I have tried to bring to the forefront events of a historical nature that are amusing and unusual. These incidents bring history to life and give insight into everyday life from more than 200 years ago up to the current day.
You may or may not believe in ghosts; or maybe you are unsure about the existence of ghosts. If you are a believer, you will delight in hearing about the spirits that have made a home
here in Emmaus. If you are a nonbeliever, it is my hope you will be intrigued by the spiritual incidents and they give you a deeper connection to history. If your view of ghost activity is maybe, you can experience the reason why many people who have had close encounters with these spirits become believers.
