    Heather L. Smith was born during the Second World War in Richmond, Virginia. Moving often, she developed a deep compassion for lonely people and began writing letters of encouragement. When her marriage of thirty years ended, Heather continued her education, earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Social Work. Her third book was written after she lost her job of ten years, and God began a new work in her life. Heather lives in Mechanicsville, Virginia close to her family and friends.

      PREFACE

      This little book of stories was written just for you, my friend. They were written following the birth of my granddaughter, Samantha, during my months in the wilderness.

      The stories are true and have been breathed on by Him who shares your pain and understands the hurt and grief you experience. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, these stories are a reflection of the precious love the Lord Jesus Christ has for you.

      Beloved, Samantha is you, my dear. She is you: discouraged, lonely, and brokenhearted. She is you: struggling so hard and feeling no one cares. Finally, she is you: about to give up because the pain is too much to bear.

      My prayer is that the stories will comfort you and give you hope for there is One who has gone before you and has walked in your shoes.

      He longs to comfort you with His sweet words of love.

      He yearns to embrace you with His strong arms of compassion.

      He desires to kiss you and always wipe all of your tears.

      He wants to take you away with Him and change your heart forever.

      My friend, Jesus loves you so very much.

      You are His beloved—His bride.

      Go to Him; He is waiting for you.

      May God richly bless you, my dear, and may you grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:18-19).
