J. Alex Ficarra

Undoubtedly, growing up during the Vietnam War, Watergate, and gas shortages can have a profound effect on a child. Also being the son of immigrant parents most certainly can lead to a traumatizing clash of cultures and the understanding of right and wrong. With that being said, the Remington Company gave me the honor of a lifetime by letting me express my thoughts in unison with telling the brilliant stories of professionals around the world. As I wrote endlessly twenty-four hours a day, I realized that our world is full of hope and real promise. I realized that it wasn’t about war, ideology, and the pursuit of global domination; I realized that, in the pages of this great book, great things were about to happen, if only these stories could be made public. I realized that I had the opportunity of a lifetime by expressing the humanitarian attributes that these professionals continually made. After many years of writing, I realized that the Remington Company had a distinct and noble purpose. Perhaps if we could not change the present, we could certainly try to change our future. With that, we created our mentorship program, which gets these prolific stories out to the children. We wrote the stories with zest but never crossed the line of respect or dignity. We wished to capture the hearts of our audience and prove to them that giving was not an option but more so our duty as life forms on our planet. Today our book has a theme, “Inspiring the Youth of America.” This theme was our way of telling the world, “Let’s hold hands and prepare our children for a better life.” Today I continue to write for the registry. My life has irrevocably changed for the better. I volunteer for anything all the time. I enjoy moments of quiet and the appreciation of our environment. I read these biographies in amazement as everyone else does, and it never seems to get uneventful. Either way, I sincerely hope you enjoy these biographies and use them to strengthen your spirit and confidence about our existence as a species on this planet. I patiently wait for divine intervention in order to write my next biography and am happy to serve the brilliant members of the Remington Registry of Outstanding Professionals. —J. Here at Remington today is perhaps our proudest moment as writers publishes and decedents of our American forefathers. We recognize a professional who exemplifies what we stand for as a company and as a country. We recognize a professional who never believed in luck. A professional who battered down the walls of opportunity. We realize after thousands of biographies written to date that if a person’s strength of will was of measurable means, this professional would have most of all. We recognize prominent motivational speaker, author, and enterpernuer Margaret Shepherd. Let’s just start by saying that much like Mother Nature Margaret can offer a cool summer breeze or strike with the force of thousands of bolts of lightening. Margaret, much like a General gets the job done. She will go above, below or if she has to she will break right through. Margaret is a professional who has the courage to walk into anyones office with a well prepared presentation. She understands the science of marketing any product and is an expert on Human Behavior and what motivates the masses. Margaret has a soft side for people and is highly concerned with human rights and equality. When she says POWER TO THE PEOPLE she means it and after she herself became a victim she ventured out to strike back. Margaret holds our constitutional rights close to her heart. Over the years she used much of her own resources to bring awareness to unfair corporate practices. Margaret is well aware of what it takes to re-invent a career. Over the years she had to re-invent herself many times. Through personal illness and the illness of loved ones Margaret threw away personal dreams to care for others. In the end Margaret was thrust into a position of abandonment and had to dig deep within her own character and selfwill and create a method of survival. Undoubtedly Margaret’s resilience was tested on many occasions. Margaret with her child in her arms took on the world. No, Margaret could never succumb in a 9 to 5 existence. She took on the task of building a small company into a multi billion dollar conglomerate over a span of 25 years. At that moment Margaret demonstrated not only immeasurable tenacity but we confidently say she exhibited pure genius. Margaret walked through the door of police departments nation wide. She offered her weight loss programs and was warmly welcomed by professionals who surely needed her help. Over the years, Margaret was instrumental, in helping thousands of professionals. Her success spawned new products and immeasurable employment opportunities for other professionals. Margaret marketed her products state by state. She hired sale forces and dedicated thousands of working hours towards training and quality control. But for Margaret that was only the beginning. She ventured into hundreds of entrepreneurial concepts. Even today when speaking to her she breaks open every day like a vibrant 18 year old starting her career. Yes, as we said Margaret exemplifies what we stand for in every way. From pet products to books to modeling. For Margaret life is an endless array of adventures and curiosities. But through of all it Margaret never forget to give back. She spent years donating her time to a host of charities. And as you may know by now that if Margaret was going to do something she most certainly would have to be hands on in every way. Margaret traveled the world. She brought food, shelter, literature and love to the desperate needs of the children. Margaret ventured deep into the Kenyon Deserts and Jungles. Many times her life was at Great risk. She and her husband witnessed the great cultures of the African men who ran with the lions. She herself felt a connection with the spirit of these men who accepted life’s dangers and learned to co-exist with them instead of avoiding them. Margaret as a former race car driver in her youth is very well aware of testing her mortality. It seems that taking a turn at 120 miles per hour is a symbolic theme in her life. Undoubtedly all of us at Remington and of course our audience can learn a thing or two about playing it safe. All in all, Margaret’s life has been a worldwind of human ingenuity. She took the little tools she had and made herself a masterpiece of achievement. Most importantly Margaret’s life is a road map for all of us. She profoundly inspires people around her and that is her greatest quality and achievement. Today Margaret is still going strong for those who have the insight to see the priceless nature of her abilities. Margaret is currently working hand in hand with the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. Her vision as a trusted participant of their human resourcing programs is an invaluable asset. Margaret is well known to boost moral and give each employee the feeling that self character and confidence is for everyone in any career position. Margaret lectures on an abundance of issues. She leaves no one behind and is one on one with any employee who needs a healthy kick in the pants. Most of all Margaret is a hero in the fight against quality of life. She fought to build a better America. She fought nutrition, freedom, and of course the liberty to live a life unincumbered by ideology or bigotries. Today we inshrine Margaret in our book of visionary’s. We present her with our Life Time Achievement Award and we proudly welcome her inclusion.

For over 37 years she has streamlined a very complicated area of government service. Janet has unraveled the geographic nightmares of her community. Her serious side is profoundly felt when work has to get done, and proper permits need to be adhered to. Truthfully speaking, Janet’s biography can strictly be a depiction of a professional with infinite academics and credentials. But we here at Remington only see her enormous benevolence first and foremost. Janet has been giving her whole life to the Girl Scouts of America. Nancy has brought rehabilitation therapy into the 21st century. With over 40 years in the healthcare and prominent education background Nancy is at the top of any Who’s Who list. Nancy has been awarded on many occasions as a healthcare professional and as a leading woman in society. Nancy attributers her success to her work ethic and strong family values. She had a special instructor at the Mayo clinic who instilled in Nancy the importance of life and how fortunate we all are. Nancy never stopped caring. Her destiny from an early age was laid out before her. It’s also important to know that Nancy dedicated her life to disabled children long before there was government funding. At that time local and state assistance was minimal. Nancy had to create her own techniques. She had to form groups and get volunteers to help. It wasn’t until many years later that special programs were made available in public schools. Today Nancy lives a much more quiet life. She still contributes as an advisor. She frequently speaks to former students and finds great satisfaction in their success. Nancy when she gets time also enjoys poetry. She has many hobbies and for many years she used her hobbies with her students to relieve some of emotional trauma of being disabled. Nancy’s gift to the children will never be forgotten. Eventually children from all over the world came to her for her help. Nancy’s contribution to humanity could never truly be calculated. Nancy considers herself retired but we at Remington are well aware that professionals like her never truly take a day off. Her son, a prominent scientist certainly walks in her footsteps and carries the strong ethnic values she has lived by for so many years. Her oldest daughter is doing research in the Mayo Clinic facility in Rochester, Minn. and her husband is also doing research to improve our knowledge and skill with managing health issues. Today Nancy reflects on so many wonderful moments in her career. She reflects on her family’s history of education and the progress made for children with disability. From her sisters health issues to days around the campfire Nancy remembers all too well a yearning to want to help others. It’s a theme of life and undoubtedly a theme that has touched the lives of so many. With all that said today we proudly, officially and respectfully award Nancy Wedman our Lifetime Achievement Award in which Nancy deserves so well. Her prolific biography is a huge representative of our mentorship program and we at Remington offer it as inspiration to school children across America. Catherine, in everyway makes us proud to be Americans and writers. She gives our book purpose because she took the gift god gave her and reached her potential. Catherine is a proud and humble professional who has a wonderful resume of academics. But her green thumb was all she needed. Catherine has ventured into many aspects of gardening and farming. From vegetables to perennials and even nuts, Catherine’s warmth and genuinely caring nature is felt from great distances. We at Remington pride ourselves in highlighting a gardening professional well before many others we feel that children, students and other professionals can learn so much from professionals like Catherine. Today here at Remington we openly admit that adequately depicting the life and career of Dr. John R. Eastman may truly be impossible for any publication. To simply call Dr. Eastman an educator would leave the other 99% of his life untold. First and foremost Professor Eastman is a master of languages and cultures. He has done far more than achieve stellar academics. He has spent his whole life living in the worlds in which those languages were born. John has studied and traveled through the medieval roads of Europe. His quest for knowledge goes hand in hand with his insatiable curiosity for the evolution of mankind. John is a hands-on historian. He lived in Germany for years and his travels gave him a true sense of what it was like in the 15th century. In researching the development of the Church, John’s studies included many intellectual activities from the Carolingian to Romanesque periods and the High Middle Ages 8th to 13th centuries. From the Reformation to the Renaissance John explored the deeply guarded scripts hidden in the tombs of European libraries. John immersed himself in the Latin cultures of years ago. After years of study Dr. Eastman emerged much more than an educator. He offers his students a true to life depiction of the epic tales of the religious crusades and holy wars that gave way to our modern society. An athletic child by nature, John’s inquisitive instincts surfaced with epic exuberance for the many unanswered questions about our culture as a human race. John realized that the roots to many of his questions lie in the depths of literature. From Alistair Cooke to George Orwell and the German classics to Friedrich Nietzsche of the latter half of the century, John was captivated in every sense. John, obviously a man who never does anything half heartedly immersed himself in thousands of publications. He set out to formulate his own theories and today his conclusions wonderfully enlighten all of us. Undoubtedly unraveling the complexities of multiple cultures, ideologies and nations was a difficult task and most certainly required a lifetime of study. The coalescence of thousands of years of independent achievement created a forum of human evolution that we at Remington find riveting and fully understand Dr. Eastman’s personal contribution to this pivotal moment in history. John’s quest for knowledge led him in to the darkened corners of archeology, science, astronomy and mathematics. Visiting multiple megaliths and museums around the world was a wonderful opportunity to expand his theories and collaborate with other educators and philosophers. John is separating fact from fiction and theory from reality. In the light of so many recent discoveries of ancient origin, John’s works are only now becoming mainstream. His greatest quality is an open mind and his skills as a researcher. From the adventurous spirit of a Southern Californian hitchhiker to the steps of the Egyptian Tomb, John has emerged an enigma in his own right and truthfully we can talk endlessly about him. Dr. Eastman is a true historian and his in depth analysis is what makes him the brilliant professional he is today. At this point we at Remington realize that Mr. Eastman’s dedication and personal commitment is far too important to lay quietly for others not to witness. We proudly enter John into our Mentorship Program and thrust his biography into a very important role in our society. Here at Remington we are well aware of the effects of a solid athletic adolescence. We are well aware of the disciplines and moral lessons that come with sports and the ability to work towards a goal. As a company it would be easy to recognize people of wealth and political stature first and foremost. But maybe building a better America starts with us putting the needs of children and communities ahead of everything else. Here at Remington that’s exactly what we have done and it all starts with recognizing professionals like Barry Sankey. Barry a writer and commentator is a professional who thrives on youth athletics and competition. He prides himself in spotting brilliance and uncovering that diamond in the rough. Undoubtedly, living in Pennsylvania means uncommon athletic talent is in abundance. Just ask Mike Piazza. Barry is part of a whole new wave of community involving professionals who encourage children to fulfill their potential. His actions are what we need to get the children off the streets and out of the Jungle. Today Barry recognizes raw talents and writes about it regularly. He is building a program for success and in turn we as parents can watch our children flourish into adult hood. But what struck us even more about Mr. Sankey was his grass roots upbringing. Barry has worked in many different environments, obviously journalism is his passion but being hands on seems like a philosophy of life. Barry certainly loves all sports for men and women. We at Remington are quick to overlook a fancy corporate professional for a man who enjoys the smell of a grass field before the heat of a battle. Today Barry appears on all forms of media. He enjoys all sports and is a mentor to many. Although Barry instills academics he enjoys writing about a student who can balance both. In the end, we at Remington unearthed the true MVP of sports talent and it wasn’t a student. It was a intuitive writer who can sense the eye of the tiger from a great distance and can thrust a career into a promising future. Here at Remington we thank Barry for encouraging our youth and we certainly welcome his inclusion.

We at Remington openly admit after 60,000 biographies written to date that this one professional has touched us deeper than even we can imagine. We at Remington have a heartfelt and abiding respect for artists. These are people who, with their hearts and hands, give moments and emotions tangible form. Those who teach art are all the more worthy of admiration, as they make it their lives’ work to instill their passion in others. It is plain to see, then, why we consider Gretchen’s inclusion such an honor. From sculpture to painting and from Germany to Sacramento, Gretchen has done much to energize her students with the same boundless love for art that she feels every day. Here at Remington we are well aware that every great ship is only as stable as its anchor and in many ways life and the pursuit of greatness is very similar. Gosman’s Dock, a memorable part of the Long Island experience, is the fruit of one women’s determination, vision and exceptional talent for customer service. That woman is Roberta Gosman-Donovan, and the dockside restaurant bears her surname with pride. Undoubtedly many of the professionals we recognize have incredible resumes with stunning academics and credentials but few among define a century of evolution in such a precious area of our nation. Few among them have done more for preservation and ecological beauty. Few among them have mixed tranquility with wildlife aesthetics. Today we at Remington openly admit that limousines and private jets take a back seat to a tenacious leader who kept the sacred land holy and left our children centuries of pristine quiet shore front. Roberta stands her ground and we all benefit from her stubborn intuition and the pride she bares for her families integrity and her loyalty to the children of Long Island. Today we remember the Gosman family. We remember the fishing, the restaurants and the quiet moments. We remember the rocks and the sound of a gentle breeze. We remember a walk in the sand looking up at a parent with tearful pride. Thanks to Roberta we remember why our publication has such a noble purpose. It starts with a professional and a passion and it ends with a simple smile from a toddler. It is the efforts of professionals like Roberta and her goal-oriented work ethic that countless patrons have to thank as they enjoy a Long Island institution, but would never be so without Roberta’s perseverance and business skills as its foundation. Roberta is an entrepreneur who went on to become a local legend, She is just the sort of professional we at Remington are honored to include and we thank Roberta for being the beacon of light through the fog that leads us home and we welcome her inclusion.
