The Overflowing Cup of Grace - Abbey Adenigba

    What Is Grace?

Firstly, English classifies Grace as a noun.

According to the human description, Grace is to be favoured or to be accorded by someone a privilege—to show favour to another person.

Human definition also says of grace that it is a display of natural excellence in speech and in appearance before people: such as gracious dance, gracious appearance, or gracious walk.

Grace means to honour an occasion with your presence, such as the president graced the occasion. Grace is used interchangeably for all good, honour, and mercy.

An English dictionary describes grace as a sense of what is right. One could relate this description to the coming of the Light of Christ, which John the Baptist came to witness in John 1: 7: The same came for a witness. To bear witness of the Light that all men through him might believe.

Christ is the Light of God and Grace personified; since you are in Christ you have the illumination of Him in you to do right things, to discover your challenges, and to prosper through Grace.

Now, the biblical definition of grace, according to Holman Dictionary & Concordance of the Holy Bible is: the undeserved favour of God in providing salvation for those who deserve condemnation. Simply said, Grace is the unmerited favour of God upon man.

Secondly, The Holman Bible dictionary also says: In the Christian sense Grace is the saving activity of God manifested in the gift of His Son Jesus Christ (John 1: 17). Moses brought the law. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

Having lived under this Grace of God, I define Grace as the influence of the Spirit of God in the abilities of humans and the success of their destinies.

    The Cup of Grace

No matter how poor a person or a household are, what they would likely not lack is a cup of water. It is freely given in a bowl or jug with love and peace. In fact, in some communities an offering of water is a sign of peace and acceptance, and it represents openness.

And so God pours His Grace upon all and opens it to all who come to Him through Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. To them, God gives freely the Grace like water to all who come to Him in faith.

In the Gospel of John 4: 9-14, after Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for water, the woman said, How is it that you, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman? (For a Jew had no dealings with Samaritans.)

Water is significant in that region, and the offering of it means a lot to the person who gives it and the person who receives it as a gift. It says a lot.

And Jesus said in verse 13, Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again [like everyone who does things by his or her strength will always be weak or weary, showing empty boasting]. But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst, but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.

This is like the overflowing Cup of Grace. The Cup of Grace we have received has become a fountain of the lord. The strength of the Lord in all areas of our lives is not limited to salvation, but at the same time it is the source of ability to live righteously, achieve the impossible, and experience unmerited favour.

Zechariah 13: 1 says: "In that day a fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for impurity."

This corroborates the Gospel of John 19: 34 that says: "But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear and immediately blood and water came out."

So this is the fountain of our Grace: the blood of Jesus shed for the remission of our sins, and the water from Him is our purification. This is our justification by Grace by which we were saved.

By the reason of this Grace, your past is not traceable to you any longer, and your sins are forgiven. You are a new creation, and old things are passed away and all things have become new in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5: 17). When you remember this, you will continue to live in that Grace and the strength of Christ.

This is the victory of the cross that is highly indisputable. No other religion or new-age propaganda will offer you this favour, which requires no sacrifice. As in the Old Testament, men always attract the mercy of God and the blessing through sacrifice is valid, but the through the sacrifice of One Jesus Christ we have been redeemed.

The death of Jesus has opened this overflow of God’s Grace to mankind for freedom and to obtain the promise of blessing through Christ Jesus. Grace is the mystery that Paul believed he was called to preach. He said, "But none of these things move me; neither do I esteem my life dear to myself, if only I may finish my course with joy and the ministry which I have obtained from [which was entrusted to me by] the Lord Jesus, faithfully to attest to the good new (Gospel) of God’s Grace (His unmerited favour, spiritual blessing, and mercy)" (Acts 20: 24).

Grace is the power of the spirit of God at work in our lives that we draw from in time of challenges, trials and tribulation, or sickness—thus yet we are not consumed! It is the Grace; you have the Cup of Grace. Hebrews 4: 16 says: Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of Grace that we may obtain mercy, and find Grace to help in time of need. The throne of Grace is God’s throne in Christ—the mercy seat of God without sacrifice. All it requires is faith to receive it. Grace perfects His will for our future.

Grace is a Wheel to Righteousness

Grace is like a wheel to a vehicle. It is a wheel to attaining the will of God. In Galatians 5: 4 Paul wrote: You who are seeking to be justified by law: you have fallen from Grace. So, Grace comes not through your efforts or how anointed or prayerful you are. King Saul was anointed, but he made mistakes. King David had the love of God and was double anointed but made mistakes and suffer attacks.

Grace overrides the efforts of a man or a woman. It is the sole gift of Almighty God to see you through and out of bondage—to see you through the affliction period and to let you stay the course of life and succeed in whatever you venture.

You may have money, big business, big ministry of a thousand members, and a rosy marriage, but it is not by your work effort but the Cup of Grace that you have received these things. If not, why have others failed in the same things like business and marriage? That is the Grace factor.

So, do not criticize unjustly; do not look down on others and think they are finished. Also because you are living healthily does not mean those who are sick are sinners. By Grace you have been saved, the Bible says. While we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

If you have committed fornication and adultery in the past, by Grace you were saved and by Grace you have overcome the spirit of lust, so do not condemn those who have not come to the throne of Grace—that is, those struggling in sin and iniquity. Pray for them instead. And if you are struggling, receive the Cup of Grace today in Jesus name.

Apostle Paul said, "I implored the Lord three times, that affliction might
