Acknowledgments
My intention in writing this book is to transmit some of the knowledge of judo, its roots, philosophy and the universe of judo techniques with their English equivalent, to help students to understand the meaning of each technique and also to emphasize the judo values and the important role it plays in our society.
Special thanks to my sensei Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi who shared his judo knowledge. Now it is my turn to continue expanding those teachings to my students. During my years in judo I met high caliber judo professors who gave me their friendship and commitment to judo: James Colgan, Andrew Connelly, Kei Narimatsu, Manuel Aguirre, Arturo Fernández López, Maje Omagbaluwaje, Emeri Pacheco, Kuni Fumioka, Titus Selagea, Jean Louis, Kenneth Bobu, Michael Minton, Anders Angur, Lesley Hutchins, Francisco Botto, Eric Haerr, Artur Kalina, Armin Goran (RIP), Luca Stornaiuolo, to all my judoka colleagues and friends with whom I have had the pleasure of sharing the same mat, and all the judo opponents that I had during my judo life.
My most sincere gratitude to our aunt Debbie Jacobs, who unconditionally helped me editing the last draft of this book. We wish you all the best.
I am very thankful for Jason Teng’s friendship and contribution to this book, who unconditionally donated his time and knowledge by taking the majority of the pictures, and Kuni Fumioka judo sensei and Reverend of the Tenriko
