About this ebook

The author hopes this book will encourage you to seek Jesus Christ, a living, breathing, and amazing man, who promises all that seek Him will find Him and will never thirst again.

Secondly, it is hoped that you can get to know the author a bit. Unfortunately, we cannot share a two way dialog with ink and paper. But he hopes that it will lead to such a discussion some day when time and circumstances permit.

    Intro

A book on religion? But there are so many already. Yes, there are so many, but I have seen my generation. I have seen us to be on the same course as the generations before us, the path that has brought war, poverty, and hatred. I want to appeal to my generation that they recognize the disappointing history they are repeating. I want to appeal to them to pursue a different and better history. I want to write a book on religion because I have seen a different and better way. I have experienced a divinely inspired culture that has the ability to make our world a better place. I have seen a means of minimizing our offenses and maximizing our tolerance for others’ faults—the fruit of the peace the world does not know which resides in the power of the now-living Jesus Christ. I want to appeal to my generation because it seems God is our only hope; and how few seem to be concerned about that.

I have seen, held, and been this generation. I have watched us go astray and I feel and understand why we choose so poorly. Instead of rejecting as hopeless, I want to appeal for something more valuable and more permanent than possessions or the satisfaction of desires. I want to appeal to my generation to consider their lives and to consider the words that come from God. I believe they will see in those words the Truth that will set them free. I believe they will want to find out about the God who speaks such things. I believe they will mix their own confidence and determination to the hearing of His word and bring about a civilization built not on the thirst for power and wealth but on desperation for a clean conscience and a godly heritage. Yes, I have held my generation, know our desperate situation, and believe they are redeemable. I wish they had more time to learn and to choose, but I would appeal to them to consider the shortness of life. I would appeal to them to inquire of the elderly and to find out just how quickly life passes. I would beg them to devote their lives to knowing God.

It is hoped those unconvinced of the truth of the Bible will read and enjoy this little book. However, the intended reader is our American friend of the Christian persuasion. As discussed in the pages ahead, the overwhelming majority of church-going Christians are unaware of the character and work of the God of the Bible. This may seem to be an outlandish and judgmental assertion, but one for which this author will provide quite a bit of evidence. Regardless, it is hoped that whether the reader is or is not already aware of God’s eternal attributes, he will find them fascinating and attractive enough to devote his future to finding out the facts about this God.

Despite the claims of many, we have a promise for a future eternal life that we know very little about. Yet in view of any uncertainties, this author would propose that even this earthly life built by faith on the things of God is the most valuable commodity on earth; and obtaining it is infinitely more desirable than worldly delights—even if these future and unseen promises never to come to pass. To see the miracle of the new birth in Jesus, to sense the personal presence of the Godhead, and to watch Him fulfill His promises without human intervention, to know His affection for the meek, His reproof for the proud, His contentment amidst the hurt of being rejected by those most loved, those things which cannot even be described with words; those are of such overwhelming value that it is not possible to compare them with the mere things of this life.

It is to this end that I write these things to you, my friends. But in writing a book that claims to describe an invisible and yet infinite deity, I must have some authority or standard from which I base my claims. Does the author claim to have special abilities, wisdom, or revelation? Absolutely none. So he must have some standard or source of reliable information about this intangible Creator. If this author has anything special, it is that I have been granted an easy enough life to find the time to study and write down the things I have experienced about this wonderful God, even if not very well. Although I sense and cherish my personal experiences of the reality of God, I consider all human experience (including my own) too biased to deem trustworthy as absolute or divine truth. Therefore, I want to be straightforward about my sources. I believe:

    • The Bible, otherwise referred to as the Scriptures, as given in the original tongues, is the only authoritative and infallible Word of God. It is His message to the human race.

    • The full intent of the Bible’s message may be interpreted correctly into any language by those fluent in both the Bible’s original languages and the interpreted language.

    • The Bible leads us to the Eternal Creator, the Author and Owner of the Scriptures who sent His Son, Christ Jesus into the world to redeem mankind once, for all. I believe this Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth Israel, saves all who abandon all other hope of salvation, devoting their lives to His will.

    • It is the loss of all other hope this author calls faith. This faith-based salvation is a covenant between a sinful individual and the one Eternal God whereby God through the atoning blood of that willing sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, both pardons and grants power to live righteously. That person in return pledges to live in eternal pursuit of that righteousness so granted.

    • In witness whereof, God sends His Holy Spirit. This Spirit or Ghost is that enduring presence of Christ on Earth endued with all the authority of Christ Himself, and distributing power such as He deems good, to said earthly recipient for His divine purposes.

    * Notes about the Bible and this book:

In this condensed version of Crucial Christianity, many of the lengthy Bible passages are given only as chapter and verse references. It is of greatest importance that the reader carefully consider those truths in God’s word (i.e., read the referenced verses for yourself). The author hopes to clearly distinguish between what he is saying and what God’s word says. It is his hope and firm belief that this is clear through the use of italics, chapter and verse reference, and from the context.

    Chapter 1

    Who is God?

Is it really possible to know anything about an invisible God? It is written in the Bible’s book of Romans, "His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made. Further, it adds so that they are without excuse," implying it is extremely
