About this ebook

Her husband is sitting in the ash heap, scraping his diseased body with a piece of pottery. Her children have been killed, along with most of the servants. The animals are either dead or stolen. Where has her life gone? Yesterday, she was the wife of one of the most affluent men in the east. Now her life is shattered and possibly threatened.

How will she survive? She is afraid, but where will she go? Should she tell others how she is feeling? Would they understand? She is alone and desperately wants her old life back. How can she go on?

Have you ever felt like that? Life can change in a moment, and what you know to be reality today may only be a memory tomorrow. Ruth Ellen weaves her personal story along with an imaginary Jobs wife. Together they will bring you through any adversity you may face with an understanding that God is sovereign and in control even when everything seems to be spinning out of control.

    About the Book

Does life just get you down sometimes? Are there times when nothing seems to work and you are overwhelmed by how much turmoil and sadness you feel? Do you long for peace but just don’t know how to make it happen? Does it appear that your friends are pulling away from you—or is it that you are backing away from them? Do you think that no one understands or cares what you are going through right now? Have you ever been afraid of what may happen in the future? Do you feel that your life may never count for anything?

These questions and many more are ones that Ruth Ellen worked through in her life. Inside this book, you will walk through Ruth Ellen’s testimony of part of her life and how she found the hope and peace she was seeking. Job’s wife is a person not directly described in the Bible. She is mentioned only once as she makes a spiteful outburst to her husband. Her husband, Job, suffered many things, and so often we forget that his wife would have been suffering also. All we can do is imagine what she may have been feeling as the trials unfolded in their lives. There is a book in the Bible named after her husband. It is the book of Job, and it gives us great detail of the adversities they experienced.

God weaves a story into each of our lives as He allows us to go through trouble and trials. It is through the valleys of our lives that we learn what and who God really is and that He really can and will do what He promises in His Word. Ruth Ellen hopes you enjoy this book. It has taken her a lifetime to live it.

(The musings attributed to Job’s wife are purely from the imagination of the author.)

To my family and grandchildren, and to their children and their children’s children, may they grow in the knowledge of God and discover that He is forever faithful and full of grace and mercy, and may they find hope through His Son, Jesus Christ.

    Foreword

Our Lord never makes a mistake in any area of our lives, and that especially applies regarding the people He allows to cross our paths. After coming to preach for a couple of years in rural Missouri, the Lord gave my wife and me the opportunity to meet Brother Gary and Mrs. Ruth Zuber. Through the love we all share for the things of God, mules, and country living, the Lord immediately knit our hearts together. You don’t have to be around Brother Gary and Mrs. Ruth long to see that they have a special relationship with each other and with our Savior, and after hearing their miraculous love story, it was abundantly clear that the Lord had been working out His plan in their lives.

This book you are about to read tells of the journey Mrs. Ruth has been making from her youth to this present day, and it reveals the power and the ability of our God to guide us in those times when we don’t know what to do or which way to turn. Through the book of Job, in conjunction with Mrs. Ruth’s life experience, the Lord has given her great insight into the heartache and grief Job’s wife must have endured. I can tell you that her candid thoughts on that subject have provoked me to view Job’s wife through a different set of eyes.

I believe this book will be a valuable tool to any person willing to digest its content and apply its truths to their own life situations. What the Lord has done (and continues to do) for Mrs. Ruth Zuber, He will do for anyone who desires to love Him fervently and trust Him completely. This book clearly reveals that the grace and mercy of God are alive and well!

    In His service,

    Evangelist, Dr. Bill Lystlund

    Special Thanks

I’m not sure where to begin to say thank you to the many people who have supported and encouraged me through the process of writing this book. Not one of my friends ever said a discouraging word, but instead, they have been excited and encouraging. I thank God for all of you.

Thank you to the staff at WestBow Press for your patience and guidance in making this book a reality.

I wouldn’t have even begun this process let alone completed it without the coaching of my amazing husband, Gary, who thought I could do it even when I was unsure and who continually encourages me to be the person God wants me to be. I am so blessed that God brought you into my life and that together we can work through the adversities God allows in our lives. Without some of those, this book may never have been written.

To my daughter, Angie, who can be the best cheerleader when life gets you down. You’ve been right beside me, consistently reminding me of God’s wisdom and goodness through the tough times. We’ve chuckled over lunch about writing a book. Who would have thought it would really get done. I love the wonderful, caring person you have grown to be. Keep growing in the Lord. He will never let you down.

Just think, if I had not felt the need to find some purpose in my life, I may never have met you, my friend Sue. God has a plan and works in mysterious ways to bring the right people into our lives. I thank God for you and your friendship. You are like a sister to me and you are my prayer warrior. Oh yeah, also my shopping buddy!

One day Kristi walked over to my cubicle at work and said, Want to do a Bible study? Just like that, we became fast friends. Thank you so much for your encouragement over all the lunches we’ve had. Your excitement about this book has kept me motivated to finish it. It’s fun to dream big for God!

Susan, you have completed my team. You have the greatest ability to say things that bring thoughts to life. Thank you for hanging in there with me and for helping me say what was in my heart.

And God, all credit for everything goes to You. This book is Yours not mine. I pray You will use it for Your glory. Any talent or ability I have comes from You. Thank You for always being with me and allowing me the privilege to declare Your faithfulness.

    Preface

God gives each of us a story—a narrative made up of daily life experiences, both good and bad. Life is a journey, taking us to the heights of mountaintops and traveling through the lowest of valleys. Each day is filled with many choices—choices that determine the outcome of our lives.

Early in my life, at the tender age of nine, I made a choice to give my heart to the Lord Jesus Christ. I would like to say from that point on, the choices I made were always good and that I lived the best life ever; however, that
