    Introduction

I think that most people would agree that the ideal future involves peace and prosperity. But at some point in time you realize that peace and serenity are the most important and that prosperity is just the icing on the cake. So how do I guard my future so that I will have the best chance at the peace and contentment that God surely wants me to have. How can I get control of my life with the discipline needed to achieve my potential? We live in a precarious world at best, and we are so very different, but we do have one thing in common. We are all faced with daily temptations that could ruin our otherwise bright futures. This book was created to give us a clearer vision of the challenges we face every day. We will learn that the compromises we see as harmless today can and will come back to bite us tomorrow, next year or the next decade. Think about how many people you know whose futures have been jeopardized by a temporary lack of judgment. Presidents, congressmen, Olympic swimmers and the guy next door have all had to deal with mistakes from their past. Drugs, pictures, money, and many other things can catch up with us. This book shows just how easy life mistakes are to make, and how to watch out for them. So are there any answers? Yes, most of all we will learn that staying close to God and his rules will give us a head start in being vigilant and watchful. Also we will learn how to engage others in holding us accountable for our neglectful behavior. I must remember above all that God’s word is the best road map to peace. It is so much easier to strive for perfection if I walk closely to the creator and master of perfection. Being more aware of potential problems is half the battle so go ahead and get started on your journey to a fulfilled life with greater vision.

    Chapter 1

    Not Catching on Fast

Every day people’s lives fall apart for many different reasons. They go bankrupt and lose their house or go morally bankrupt and lose themselves. There are all kinds of obstacles out there just waiting to put us in the ditch. We can choose from alcohol, drugs, cults, or our own frail human nature.

It is so easy to lose yourself. You slip an inch today, a foot next week, and then one morning you wake up and you’re gone. I watched TV, as a hurricane was moving into Texas. People put sandbags around their homes, but slowly and surely the water rose and flowed into their living room and dining rooms. Sometimes our lives fall apart without our assistance even when we do all we can. Other times we assist ourselves when we take the plunge. In the Old Testament there was a judge named Samson. He was young and impulsive, so when he saw a beautiful woman he liked, he immediately fell in love. This woman was an idol worshiper, and his parents knew she would lead him to disaster, but

Samson was determined to get what he wanted; therefore, everything else that was important in his life began to slip away. His indiscretions caused his life to fall apart, embarrassed his family and his God.

Tearing down our lives was not easy and neither is the rebuilding. This is because old habits are difficult to break, but not impossible. The same applies to rebuilding your life after a disaster that was not your fault. Rebuilding is possible but may not be easy. Jesus came to give us salvation but he also gave us directions in building our lives while we are still living and working down here on earth.

My dog is named Shady. My sister found him at a dumpster and didn’t have the heart to leave him nor the nerve to take him home. So she decided that I needed a dog. I live alone, so she said I needed company and protection, and for some reason I bought it.

As Shady was growing up, she proved to be extremely sweet but never obedient. I talked to her over and over about not leaving the yard because it was dangerous and that only bad dogs left the yard etc., but she never seemed to catch on.

After I had had Shady about two years, she came home one day with puncture wounds in her skin. I thought she had been shot but when the vet shaved her down, we found that another dog had attacked her, and the other dog definitely won.

    I treated Shady with pills
