About this ebook
Gabrielle Grant
I was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, in a family of ten. Growing up in a single-parent home wasnt easy, but of course I grew to understand the lifestyle. The best part, I would say, was being the baby. My dear mother had seven daughters, of which I am the youngest, and my pop had four of his own. In all, I have seven sisters and three brothers. Graduating from C. A. Johnson High School, a proud Hornet, I had no idea what the world had in store for me. I had planned on college and even got accepted. But apparently it was better for me to join the military. Although I have some regrets, this choice has had its benefits. Im learning more and more about myself every day, and this experience, if nothing else, has taught me to be grateful and to have patience. I just thank God for the opportunity. I began writing at an early age. It was around the second grade when I wrote my first short story. Ive always loved to read and write, and of course English was always my favorite subject. It was the only class that gave me a chance to dream and imagine, and sometimes those dreams came true. When I had finally got the chance to read my first story aloud to the class, I was so excited. At that moment I realized that I had a talent, and immediately it became my passion. Later I began writing short stories of several different genres. I enjoyed doing it, but it was very time consuming. I thought of writing poetry many times but wasnt sure if I could do it. To me poetry was always about romance or life or something I couldnt understand. Then I decided to read up on other poets and writers and discovered that poetry told many stories in only a stanza or two. Lines of a few words told a story not even a novel could compare to. It was deep, it spoke to me on so many different levels, and it caused a spark in me to explode. So I tried poetry due to my lack of patience and found out how real my passion to write really is. Its definitely my life. Spoken word is heavy and changes lives even if its only a few. Its a culture all by itself.

This book is my way to give thanks to God for his unconditional love and for the peace he has brought me. With it I am thanking him for the gift of writing. He gave me hope, faith, and the courage to follow my heart and live my dream. I’d also like to thank an old coworker or two; they gave me a little inspiration for some topics. Special dedication to my pops, Donald Watts (RIP), and much love to my family and friends and any loved ones left out. Read on and enjoy! I hope I inspire at least one human being.
Introduction:
Theory
So I have a theory
An analysis of facts
If you can relate to what I’ve written
My thoughts have become abstract
I try to break down all the things that I feel
Everything I live
Not a dream, but it’s real
In fact it’s all the things that actually occur
The occurrences in life
Inspire me to write
A skeletal-formed product
What I produce will have you hooked
So concentrate on this book
My life is poetry
Poetic, lyrical, my soul speaks
It’s a passion that creeps
Streaming in my blood
Keeping me alive
Without it I’m up to no good
So I have a theory
I’ll have you analyze my facts
After you’ve allowed the spoken word
To become your abstract
Prologue:
Pride (Derived from Emotion & Madness)
So be proud!
To be proud means that you have pride
Let us begin to justify
Do you have pride?
So be proud!
And we’ll boast
Be proficient, and we’ll boast
Don’t be obscure; be heard
Be understood like these spoken words
Oh! Look at him brag
What good does it do the man
Who knows it all but knows nothing?
His arrogance, you folly fool
A madness causing him to be so cruel
Yes he is very arrogant
I’ll exaggerate these truths
For what drives my emotion
Is also pride
So be proud!
They tell me, rather I’d have probity
Preferably I prefer to be sound
But the people are unreasonable
Do you have pride?
Be proud, but do not boast
Be proud, but do not brag
Keep your arrogance, don’t be arrogant
Don’t be folly, have good sense
And when it’s time you will be proud
And it won’t be wrong
Have pride!
RANDOM
DISCUSSION
(INSPIRED FROM DEPLOYMENT)
Untitled
It’s random; it has no title
Like my life story
Though no title, I have rivals
The rivalry
Everyone has a spoken word
But to compete against me
Is to compete to be defeated
Every man is for himself
So I write, not just for my health
Writing if nothing will save me
From my own death
Six feet deep, six feet higher
I choose the fate which I desire
And in the midst of self-destruction
I decay slowly
Just a Random Discussion
Bald-Headed Man
Shall I rub this bald man’s head?
I can see the future, as I pull and tug
You try and refuse her
But with that bald head
Who ever said?
Who ever thought?
That when this man walks
You feel his thoughts
You seek his wounds
Find out what lies beneath
Caress his struggles ahead
All over his bald head
And make sure he’s well fed
Never fill this man’s head with dread
What’s he thinking? No one knows
Love him long time, behold his bald mind
As he laughs you see the veins; he slowly recovers from the pain
Suddenly he’s beneath me
My flesh and bone, a feeling only between us
Let this bald-headed man free himself, for the life he lives
Has brought him closer to death; help him find his purpose
Rub his head, remove his hurt
We’re here for a reason, so let’s appreciate our worth
I shall rub my bald man’s head
Perception
See me now
What you perceive of me, the air I breathe
Is now your perception
My eyes full of clouds, as they droop to the ground
Sounds coming from the crowd yeah look at me wow
How I’ve stoned the man
How much my haters understand
How much stress can one stand?
To hold back the tears
And put on a front in
