E ven with very little sleep, the warriors managed to get up early in order to give the newlyweds a royal send off. After breakfast, everyone including Alexandria and Darnell, met at the shuttle bay to say their good byes. There was drowsiness and fatigue in everyone’s eyes. No one could hold back the yawns and stretches that came with going on two hours of sleep.
The High Council and the Warriors were all dressed in their military best. Each wearing blue pants, matching shirts, and jackets bearing their last names across the left side along with their rank. All stood at attention on both sides of the entrances that led to their shuttles. As the newlyweds walked down the middle of the path, each person gave a salute.
Darrnell shook his father’s hand while Alexandria gave hugs to the ladies. Captain Slaughter, who was assigned to take them to Argon, waited inside of the ship.
Have a great honeymoon and may God be with you.
said Alexandria. As she waived one last time.
The ships’ doors closed up and everyone watched as they launched and disappeared into the clouds. Afterward, everyone went their separate ways. The generals and governors returned to pack their things in preparation for their return to their various planets, while the warriors went back to catch up on some much needed sleep.
Alexandria returned to her chambers while Darnell stayed behind and supervised operations in the landing bay. It was a busy time as Nebulites and other dignitaries were returning home.
As the last shuttle of dignitaries departed, Captain Slaughter was making his return from Argon. He noticed that the landing bay was less congested and therefore able to make a very smooth landing. No one was happier to see him return than Darnell. He knew Slaughter was an excellent pilot, but felt much better just having him around. Out of respect he decided not to question him about the trip but instead greeted him with a salute and a handshake.
So captain how are you coming along with the building of your new home?
asked Darnell.
I should have it completed by tomorrow my prince. It feels good to finally have a place to call home.
answered Slaughter. You’ve earned that and much more.
said Darnell with a wide grin. Hey what do you say we go over to Kadesh pond for some fishing after you’re done?
But of course my prince
said Slaughter. It would be my honor.
Slaughter figured there were other things on Darnell’s mind but thought it best to allow him to bring them up rather than risk insulting him.
My prince, may I ask about your time with your father this week?
asked Slaughter. Was it everything that you expected?
This question brought color and a smile to Darnell’s face. He truly felt proud to be his father’s best man and spend quality time with him. He could probably spend all day entertaining questions about him.
Well Captain I waited my entire life for this and honestly I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
said Darnell He’s a man that I can be proud of.
Indeed my prince.
responded Slaughter.
Well Captain I must go into the province of Kadesh and see what our citizens urgently need and you have a house to finish.
said Darnell.
Yes my Prince
answered Slaughter. I shall see you soon.
The Warriors had slept through breakfast and lunch. They finally woke and came to their senses around 1 in the afternoon. They felt as though they had slept for days even though it had only been 5 hours since the newlyweds had left. All of the generals and governors had long since returned to their planets and all that remained of the wedding guests were the warriors.
Alexandria had given strict orders for the warriors to not be disturbed. Arnold, who was the highest ranking officer remaining as Captain, knocked on everyone’s door to get them up. He especially made sure Akasha was on her feet because he had given Regina his word to look after her in their absence.
Akasha are you up?
yelled Arnold Akasha!
Yea! yea! I’m up. Stop Yellin!
said Akasha.
She was still groggy and the pounding on the door caused her to jump straight up from the bed.
I don’t know how I’m going to make it with these biscuit heads for a whole week.
Akasha thought to herself.
Get yourself together because we’re returning home within the hour.
said Arnold
Yea Yea.
answered Akasha.
Buck
was already up completing his daily workout routine of 500 pushups and sit-ups.
Wally was going over his list of female names that he accumulated at the reception. As he stood in the mirror and slicked back his hair, he began to see himself as the lady’s man of Nebulan.
After about 30 minutes, the warriors met in the dining chambers for a specially prepared dinner. Everyone had enjoyed their stay, but now was anxious to get back to Nebulan.
Alexandria insisted on feeding them before they began their journey.
I want to say again that we have truly enjoyed your company and please feel free to make Neptonia your second home.
said Alexandria. My son is in the provinces speaking to our citizens in order to find out the best way we can come together and help them with their farms, businesses, and overall way of life. He’ll be making his report to your high council very soon.
Yes your highness. We look forward to providing you with any resources that you may need. We also enjoyed the pleasure of your hospitality.
said Arnold.
Alexandria took a long curious look at Buck
who was quietly enjoying his ribs.
Excuse me Sergeant, you don’t speak very much do you?
asked Alexandria.
Alexandria gave him a pleasant smile which she hoped would break the ice. She wasn’t sure if he was shy or just quiet by nature.
Buck
was very surprised to be addressed and was at a total loss for words.
Well ma’am this wonderful meal that you’ve given us has just left me speechless.
Answered Buck
The other warriors weren’t sure what was going to come out of his mouth but were very impressed with his mannerisms.
It’s
Buck isn’t it?
asked Alexandria. Yes ma’am.
Buck
answered
Is that a birth name or nickname?
asked Alexandria.
Well ma’am it’s a nickname given to me by my father after I shot my first dear at the age of 5.
answered Buck
proudly. It was a 5 pointer. Heck ma’am even my father had never killed a five pointer before. It was on that day that he started calling me
Buck".
Everyone learned something new because until then no one knew why he was called by that name.
I understand.
said Alexandria.
She sensed there was more to the story but declined to press anymore.
Well your highness, I do believe that you’re the first person to get more than two words out of him at one time.
said Wally.
Everyone erupted in laughter because it was true that Buck
opened up more with Queen Alexandria than with any of the warriors. This even brought a smile to the normally straight faced Buck
Well some things just need a woman’s touch.
said Alexandria with a grin.
Yes ma’am.
Agreed Buck
whose face had turned red from embarrassment.
Alexandria then turned her attention to Akasha. Her motherly instincts quickly made her realize that this was a young lady that was starved for attention. She believed that deep down there was something special about her and maybe the stress of war and losing parents at a young age had taken their tolls. Realizing she had completely embarrassed Buck
, Alexandria turned her attentions to Akasha.
So Akasha you’re the youngest of the group. How old are you?
asked Alexandria.
15 ma’am
answered Akasha
Where your parents Military?
asked Alexandria.
Yes ma’am. My daddy was infantry and my momma worked communications on battle cruisers.
answered Akasha
Alexandria looked at Akasha with a loving smile. She could see the pain in her eyes as she spoke about her parents. The war had torn apart many homes but it was hardest on the children that were left behind. She reached over and gave Akasha a big hug. It was almost as she knew that’s exactly what she needed. The last person to hug her in this way was her mother. Alexandria reminded her of how she felt the last time her mother held her and said Everything is going to be all right.
Akasha didn’t want to let go. Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked up at Alexandria.
I’m sure your parents would be proud to see their daughter as a corporal in an elite military unit. I believe that you’ll have a fine career.
said Alexandria in a consoling manner.
Alexandria also realized that Akasha needed encouraging more than the others because of the fact that the others didn’t have much to say to her. She looked around the table and realized that these were big strong men and that Akasha would have no female company until Regina and Mariana returned from their honeymoon. This brought a great amount of motherly concern from Queen Alexandria.
Captain Arnold Burns may I have a word with you in private please?
requested Alexandria.
Yes your highness.
answered Arnold
They went into the queens chambers so she could discuss the matter with him in private. After dismissing her hand maidens, Alexandria got right to the point.
Captain I know that I may be totally out of line in what I’m about to say and If so please forgive me. But I’m concerned about Akasha being the lone female around men for a whole week. I know you gentleman would look out for her and give her protection, but a young lady like that needs companionship of the female variety.
said Alexandria.
Arnold thought for a minute and realized that no one wanted to babysit and that they still had a few more days of vacation time left over.
What do you suggest your highness?
asked Arnold. Not sure where she was going with the subject.
May I suggest that she stay here on Neptonia until everyone returns from Argon? I really believe she’ll benefit from the time spent around me and other Neptonian females.
Said Alexandria
Arnold could see the genuine concern in her face and felt she had Akasha’s best interest at heart. He also couldn’t help noticing the beauty of Queen Alexandria. Arnold noticed her red dress that brought out the shape of her tall athletically built body and her inviting smile that lights up any room. He was so completely engrossed in her charms, that he lost focus on their conversation.
Captain! Captain Burns! Are you ok?
Alexandria said while snapping her fingers to bring him out of his trance.
Uh, uh yes I’m sorry your highness.
said Arnold, while trying to regain his composure. My mind left the Zartonian Galaxy for a moment.
It’s ok. Can I get you anything?
asked Alexandria.
No ma’am.
answered Arnold. I’m ok. Concerning your question, I have no problem with your request but the decision belongs to Akasha as to where she wants to spend the remainder of her vacation.
After giving him a curious look, they both returned to the dining area to talk with Akasha. By this time, everyone had eaten and was preparing to return to Nebulan.
We’re all ready Captain Barns
said Wally
Great!
responded Arnold. But Queen Alexandria has something that she’d like to ask Akasha first.
Alexandria walked over to Akasha and put her arm around her shoulder. Instantly Akasha felt a mother/daughter connection. It was the same thing her mother used to do when they would take walks around the base or if she just wanted to show her love. Whatever the case, it really felt good to Akasha.
Akasha looked at Queen Alexandria with anticipation; wondering what was on her mind.
"Akasha how
