About this ebook

Changing our hearts through prayer changes things and truly moves the hand of God. We often hear other believers sharing about this. Gods timing is not ours to command. If we do not start the fire with the first strike of our match, we must try again. God does hear our prayer, but He may not answer it at the precise time we have appointed in our minds. He will reveal Himself to our seeking hearts, though not necessarily when and where we may expect.

The offence causing me to turn away may be spiritual. I had imagined that once within His fold, I would never again suffer from the stinging winds of temptation. Yet it is best for me the way it is, for when I endure temptation His grace is magnified, my own character matures, and heaven seems sweeter at the end of the day.

There is one thing you can do that can accelerate your spiritual growth more than almost any other thing: Learn to take correction from the Spirit of God and from His people. Remember that next time someone corrects you. Love that person and thank him or her, for being concerned for you, and helping to speed up your spiritual progress. If youll do that youll come out ahead every time.

    DEDICATION

    •  This book is firstly and totally dedicated to the Almighty God who first called us to help others in counselling.

    •  Secondly, this personal counselling journal is dedicated to those who are unable to come forward for one to one counselling, but find it easier to meet with the Lord Jesus Christ in person. At His feet, precious lessons for personal change and growth can be learnt through journally.

    •  Remember, today is the first day of the rest of your life.

    •  May you change it for the better by God’s grace.

    •  Thirdly I wish to dedicate this to the memory of two great teachers of Christian Counseling, Rev Selwynn Hughes( Waverly, UK) and Rev Anthony Yeo (Singapore).

    PREFACE

When I first read The Imitation Of Christ by Thomas A Kempis, I was a youthful teenager, studying in the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus School in Johor Bahru. The Irish Catholic Nuns were Sisters of the order of the Holy Infant Jesus. They were the only mentors we had teaching us the Way of Christ, with their sacrificial living, away from home, thousands of miles across the sea in Ireland. Their Christian love was expressed in Service before Self. Their love, care and concern for us the students were genuine, and they were indeed the best images of Christ as they lived in imitation of Christ!

Their sacrificial hearts expressed in daily obedient living touched my young heart deeply.

I told myself though my ambition and passion in life , was to be a doctor to help sick people, I would become a nun after that, if it was God’s will for me.

I became a Christian in my University days. I was a very worried and troubled student, as my Father had no means to support me through University, as he had retired and we were 11 siblings.

I asked God to let me have that peace I saw in the faces of my fellow students in an IVF meeting. Christ touched my life so deeply, I submitted to His will. Miraculously I was awarded a scholarship to study medicine in India. India was the Lord’s way of discipleship and strengthing for my inner spirit.

I accepted Him into my life, and was baptised.

One big tragedy struck when I lost my younger sister, Rosy, who died when she was 24years old. I was two years older and had just become a doctor. In my grief for her, I could not be consoled. I was angry with God, and told Him about His cruelty in allowing my sister to die. Unknowingly to myself, my anger was part of my grief cycle! I was in grief for years, without realising it, until I learnt in a seminar by Rev Anthony Yeoh that one has to say Good-Bye in a very special way, then one’s grieving at last can really stop. At last I was reconciled with the Lord again, and I prayed to Him to never ever let me go away again, and to cling to me even in the times when I let go.

The Lord has kept His promises all these years no matter what my trials or persecutions on earth are. His Grace has always been sufficient for me. He
