Life Before Litigation
The year was 1980. Many historic events happened that year. Atari released Space Invaders and dominated the market for video game consoles only to crash three years later. The Intellivision system was released in North America as the main competitor of Atari. Arcade games such as Pac-Man were among the most popular of the time. The video game market was in its prime.
On March 24, 1980, I, Erik Estavillo, was born in San Jose, California. At first, I came into this world just like everybody else; a clean slate with my whole life ahead of me. While my entrance into this world and the early development of the video game market may seem irrelevant to each other, years later they would end up going hand-in-hand. I am the man who is famously known for suing Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Activision Blizzard, and this is my story.

Everybody reflects on their childhood at some time or another during their lives; childhood is thought to be the basis for every persons’ life. Some peoples’ childhoods are happy and are filled with memories of family gatherings, playing with friends and siblings and cousins, and going on family trips, even gathered around the television playing video games with their family and friends. For others, sometimes childhood is a bit more dark and solemn and is not remembered as a happy time.
I remember my childhood as being more on the sad side for as far as I can remember. I lived a relatively normal life until my parents got divorced when I was around the age of seven. Of course, that was back when divorce was not as common as it is today. My parents both fought for custody of my brother
