DEDICATION
Youth: God’s Victors
This book is dedicated to every young person I was responsible for encouraging over the years. I have experienced your feelings of frustration with school, and life in general, but I persevered. Now, more than ever, I know you can use faith to overcome your obstacles too. Faith will allow you to surpass your expectations and get to a place where only God could have sent you. I urge you to maintain your faith in Christ. Because I know you are worthy of obtaining victory, I will never apologize for pushing you to succeed!
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Garrick Gibson is a fantastic graphic designer. He completed the cover of this book, as well as my first book publication. Although he has technical skills, I appreciate him more for being a great supporter and wonderful colleague over the years. The same gracious attitude he exhibited was presented by my mother, Dr. Beverly Edwards while she reviewed the content of this book.
I approached new territory when beginning a fictional book. Yet, with the assistance of my mom and support of my teen reviewers, I knew I was following God’s intended design. My mentee, Rekeeshia Merricks, and long-time acquaintance, Faith Baker, encouraged me so much that I am unable to express it in words. They read the book and replied with immediate reviews. I pray every reader gets as much from the book as they did. Additionally, I was blessed by my pastor, Supt. Elton Oliver, Sr. Although I am glad he agreed to write the foreword, I am more grateful to have him pour in my life on a weekly basis. I appreciate his integrity and consistent support.
Finally, I would like to extend special gratitude to each person who kept asking me, When are you going to write another book?
Every time I was asked that question, it pushed me to complete the project that God had already motivated me to do. I am overjoyed to know people have been blessed by my writing. I pray each of my books is able to bring forth positive results in the lives of our youth and others.
FOREWORD
Faith: Two Seats
When I was asked to write the foreword for this particular book, I was moved with passion because faith is the essence of my life. In addition, I know the author of this book is a woman of relentless faith. I began to mentally review the subject of Where is thy faith?
and the scripture that readily came to mind was Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Everything you need or desire can be received by faith. If you don’t do well, you must ask yourself, Where is my faith?
Some people put their faith in this world’s system, only to find disappointment. But when you put your trust in the Almighty God you will learn that He is your complete source. Faith is a gift that God has placed in each of us. Every man is given a measure of faith that is waiting to be cultivated. You can more easily endure your process of trials in life by believing God’s word and acting on faith.
There are two seats of faith. The first is the reward of faith
and the other is the trial of faith.
Receiving the blessings of the Lord, in abundance, is called the reward of faith. That is when blessings are flowing just as quickly as you ask for them (right now). For instance, you speak to the mountains in your life and they are readily moved. As you speak and claim it
, it
suddenly appears; that is the time you see immediate change in your circumstances. On the contrary, the trial of faith comes after a season of rewards.
When you sit in the seat of trials, you must endure hardship. While experiencing the trial of our faith, you recognize what God has done in your past but notice your situations are not changing as speedily as before. At that time you are faced with two questions: Are you willing to go through the trial and submit yourself to God until our season changes? Are you willing to wait until the promises of God unfold?
To get to a place of maturity in your faith, you must be tried. The reality is, however, that no one desires to have their faith tried. Nobody finds pleasure in going through trials in their lives. Pleasurable or not, you must be assured that heaviness will come to your address when your faith is being tested. When heaviness arrives, you should lock yourself away and cry out to the Lord for strength to endure those difficult moments. You may not know what to do or how you should react during the time of struggle, but be assured that if you truly believe in the Almighty God, this [season of difficulty] too will pass.
After the struggle, deliverance will come. Don’t be discouraged
