About this ebook
by Ray A. Twist
Now I lay me down to sleep
And I hope God will give me a break
I hope I don't see Satan
The next time I awake
I hope I hear birds and smell flowers
But not the ones given to the dead
I hope I see a lone star wavin on a flag
Against a blue sky overhead
I hope I can see the mustang
Drifting along the canyon rim
And hear the voices of my old pals
Randy, Rusty, Lefty and Slim
Ray A. Twist
Ray A. Twist left poems on the table for his grandchildren to read before he left each morning to work his cattle, on his lease. The poems in his book reveal life in Texas. The poetry of Ray A. Twist also paints us a picture of his cowboy life in Texas for forty years.

About The Author
JUST IN TIME
The hands of the clock are moving on.
You cannot move them back.
It’s like the old time horror movie,
Where you’re tied on the railroad track.
You see the train coming down on you,
And you know that it won’t stop.
It’s blowing smoke and belching fire,
And the devil is riding ‘on top.
Soon you’re on the edge of life’s seat.
There seems to be no hope.
Your faith is the call to Ranger God.
He sends Jesus to cut the rope.
Your spirit soars from your body,
You see he’ll wait there far below.
Jesus takes you by the hand,
And shows you the way to go!
DON’T FENCE ME IN!
A cowboy is a drifter,
A free soul, you might say.
He will attach himself to a slow moving herd,
And wake up in a new world each day.
He can ride a big blue norther,
Rope a tornado, and tie it down.
He’ll spend a month’s pay in the Red Dog
