About this ebook

Unknown Pages is a parable depicting the age old story of
good versus evil. Using adolescents as an allegory of emerging
awareness, we are transported into a realm that resembles a
mirror of our own conscious and subconscious dilemmas.

A host of magical beings such as dragons, fairies, spiders, mermaids, snake and
tree spirits are at war with Mabus the evil Sorcerer and his alien minions. The
object of this battle is to retrieve from Mabus, a white powder gold, found
in meteorites called Cosmic Dust. This gold dust has mystical properties
enabling the restoration and healing of our dying planet.

The alchemical transmutation of trusting in the magic within combined
with precious Cosmic Dust results in a tale of valour and optimism,
pitted against the forces of destruction and greed.

The quest is to save the planets resources from being sucked dry by Mabus.

The two teenagers, Rosie and Brooke meet in a bookshop, where they
find themselves in a time warp of being wide awake in a dream. They
have been called into this world by powerful earth energy in the shape
of a dragon called Aurora Borealis, Queen of Light. The youngsters have
been specifically chosen for their strong characters and stout hearts. Their
task is to take the knowledge from their breath taking journey back to
the Waking World, thus completing a vital healing process.

I t was the night before Rosie’s fifteenth birthday and being aware of a strange feeling that had been building over the past few days she decided to have an early night. I’m off to bed mum.

Are you alright? You don’t usually go to bed at this time, it’s only nine thirty.

Yeah I’m fine, I’m really tired. If I go to bed now then tomorrow will come quicker. I need to get up early I have a few things to do before I meet up with my mates.

Okay darling, sleep well and sweet dreams. See you in the morning.

Night, Rosie replied. Come Billy, she called to her pet Jack Russell who followed her up the stairs.

What a beautiful night. The stars look like pin holes in a giant blanket, with a light shining through, thought Rosie as she climbed into bed. Pulling the duvet over her head she allowed her excited mind to ramble on until sleep took over.

The next morning Rosie awoke to the sun streaming through the windows and the sound of Billy barking. It must be the postman. Rosie thought, as she yawned and simultaneously stretched out her arms. YEAH… IT’S MY BIRTHDAY. I’M FIFTEEN TODAY. THERE MUST BE SOME POST FOR ME, she shouted as she sprang from her bed. For a moment Rosie tempered her impulse to run down stairs to see what the postman had brought. Rosie’s attention was caught by streams of colours, floating from a rainbow shaded envelope. She reached to pick it up and examined it closely. That’s an unusual stamp, she looked closer; it’s a picture of a dragon. Something deep inside of her stirred as she recalled dreaming about her friend Borealis; who she hadn’t seen for several months. The image was still vividly imprinted on her mind. Excited, Rosie snatched the envelope from where it lay, ripped it open and pulled out a birthday card. As she opened it a tiny creature escaped the paper folds and circled the room. By the time it landed on the bedroom floor the dragon had grown to match the teenager’s size. With a gasp of excitement, Borealis, it’s so good to see you, Moving towards her friend she reached out to embrace her but Rosie’s hands passed through the dragon’s body. Unnerved she asked, Are you a ghost or am I still dreaming?

Greetings my young friend. I am neither a ghost, nor your whimsical imaginings. I am projecting my likeness and it is good to see you too. May I wish you a Happy Birthday, which I believe to be the custom of your culture?

I’m honoured that you remembered. Thank you, Borealis. But surely you haven’t come from Dream World just to wish me a good day? I know there’s trouble there and that you’re needed.

Unfortunately you are correct; I am in need of your assistance.

You know I’ll do anything to help Borealis. Is it the dark force that you told me about that was attacking us humans through our dreams?

    Indeed it is.

"Have you found out who or what is responsible?

ROSIE, ARE YOU UP YET? YOUR FRIEND IS ON THE PHONE, her mother’s voice interrupted as she shouted from the downstairs hallway.

    OKAY MUM. I’M COMING.

Go to Wakeman’s bookshop. I will leave a message in the usual place. In a flash the dragon disappeared in a puff of blue smoke.

The store was busy; the drone of voices and smell of new paper filled the air. Rosie climbed the stairs to the top floor and made her way towards the Fantasy section. It was situated by a large window in a corner of the shop. Rosie didn’t see the boy until she tripped over the foot plate of his wheelchair. Ow! she shouted as she hopped on one leg while cradling a bruised shin in both her hands. Sorry, I didn’t see you there, her apology was uttered through clenched teeth.

Are you okay? the young man asked in a concerned tone.

Yeah, she replied as she took a closer look at her injury. I’m fine. It’s just a graze, it’ll be all right, Rosie limped further into the recess. He’s cute, she thought as they exchanged smiles before continuing her search. Focusing on her quest, her whole being tingled with anticipation of what was to come. She slowly walked through the aisle and ran her fingers lightly over the book spines, searching for a sign. From the edge of her vision she saw a book emanating a golden hue. This must be it, the message from Borealis. Rosie reached out to take the book from the shelf when a small slender hand, pushed through the book spine and grabbed Rosie’s finger and with a sharp tug pulled her into the unknown world of its pages.

Rosie found herself standing in a red and yellow poppy covered field. The clatter of a Medieval Fayre filled the air. It was a hot summer’s day and a welcome breeze blew through Rosie’s thick, blond hair, cooling the nape of her neck. Scanning the horizon for Borealis, her attention was distracted by the sound of nervous voices. She noticed that the noise was coming from a group of spectators who were watching a dark haired woman with a large, multi-coloured Python. The creature was hanging from her shoulders and coiled itself around her right arm. Rosie approached and weaved her way through the assembly to get a closer view. The serpent’s wavering head lifted, its flickering tongue alerted by her presence.

Rosssi… it hissed. The reptile’s resonance and gaze mesmerised her.

The girl’s mind went blank, and for a brief moment Rosie felt herself being drawn towards the slithery monster’s gapping mouth. Conjuring all her strength she freed herself from the snake’s enchantment, LET ME OUT, Rosie shouted as she pushed her way back through the stifling crowd. With the audience behind her she ran across the field until their charmed voices became one of the many whispers that floated on the breeze.

Finding a hiding place behind a large hedge Rosie sat on the grass to catch her breath. I must be in Dream World, but I’m not asleep. How can this be? She thought as she pinched herself to be certain she was awake. Wow, that was really scary. How did that snake know my name? Oh no, I hope it didn’t follow me. I should look to make sure. A feeling of dread crept up Rosie’s spine and lodged in her throat. Pushing her hands deep into the thick, green foliage, she parted the leaves and peeped through. Feeling more confident Rosie scrutinized the area. Reassured that she had not been followed, she stood up to get her bearings. "Arrh . . ." What’s happening? There was a loud rumble. The teenager threw out her arms to keep her balance. The landscape moved beneath her feet to such an extent, it felt like she was riding a wave. Woow… she cried as stumbled and fell to the floor, this is creepy. Finally the ground came slowly to a halt. The environmental problem in Dream World IS serious; it’s
