You Are Too a Bully!

About this ebook
Michael is upset, even though all of the other kids encourage him to ignore the boy. Chuck's buddies tell him to quit picking on Michael, but Chuck is sure that he isn't hurting anyone. He's not a bully; he's just having fun.
Sensing a problem, Mrs. Murphy, the bus driver, prods Michael and Jason to talk to her, but Michael is afraid he'll be tattling if he tells what Chuck has been doing. Besides, name calling or just scaring someone isn't that bad, is it?
Michael faces a very difficult situation. He is being bullied, and he needs to figure out how to handle it. He'd like to pretend he's sick and stay home. What would you do?
This book demystifies bullying for children and helps them understand what bullying behavior is. It also helps them understand what to do if they are being bullied. PLEASE NOTE: Free pdf files are available at the author's web site: www.butterfieldstories -- for any school or organization wishing to create an Anti-Bullying Program.

Acknowledgments
I am eternally grateful to my husband, Bob, for his steadfast support and encouragement as I wrote and rewrote, and he read and reread, story after story. I also wish to acknowledge my family: son Stuart and daughter-in-law Leslie and their sons, Andrew and Matthew; son Bob and his children, Meleanna and Robby, who not only supported and encouraged me but gave me raw material for a library of stories!
Thank you to my friends in Southwest Manuscripters in Torrance/Palos Verdes, California, where I first ventured into fiction writing. Spending hours in critique groups and learning to accept criticism helped me to appreciate the genre, as did hearing stimulating guest speakers, including member Ray Bradbury who chided, For God’s sake, finish things
—something I took to heart.
Most especially, I thank the generous members of the South Bay Critique Group of Manhattan Beach—Barbra Simpson, hostess, writer, artist, musician extraordinaire; Jalé Pullen (author of The Sultan’s Fingers); and Devi Anton Anderson (author of Shadow Trap). We were a unique blend of writers with one mission: to help each other put forth the best stories we had in us.
I also appreciate the guidance and support I received from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. As a member for years, I attended many summer conferences in Los Angeles, California. The how-to seminars conducted by professionals and writers who were successful in becoming published were invaluable.

Chapter 1
Don’t Call Me Chung King
Michael Kim pulled a pillow over his head, trying to drown out the buzzing of the alarm clock. He hated the sound, but now that he was twelve years old, Dad said it was time to experience
getting up by himself. After all, hadn’t Dad begun using an alarm clock when he was only eight? Yeah, right! Like I believe that! Grumbling, Michael swung his legs over the side of the bed, sat up, and smacked the button. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes.
I wish it was still vacation time. I hate being a new kid at this school. Of all the schools in the world, I get to go to one where there aren’t many other Asians. At least Jason and his family are cool. Jason! I’ve gotta hurry. He said he’d wait with me at the bus stop so those big kids wouldn’t pick on me like yesterday
24350.jpgMichael finished his orange juice in five gulps and knocked over the glass as he put it down. Oops. Sorry!
Michael!
It’s okay, Mom; it’s empty.
Please, slow down! The bus doesn’t come for another fifteen minutes.
I know, but I told Jason I’d meet him early. It’s really important.
"Okay, but promise to watch what you’re doing, honey."
I promise, Mom!
Michael picked up his backpack and raced out the back door. Bye.
The same kids from yesterday were hanging
