About this ebook
James E. Ball
For years, Jim desired to know God’s Word better, but he couldn’t find a way to get past being intimidated by it all. Finally, while teaching Bible classes and listening to his students who had the same problem as he did, he discovered that it was a basic problem of not understanding the Bible’s structure. That issue solved, he quickly made up for lost time and used his students’ questions to form the backbone of the book you hold in your hand. By profession, he was masterful when it came to any technical computer problem, but his passion was his love for the Lord and His Word! His book is being published posthumously. He went to his heavenly home on November 26, 2004. You can read more about him in Season of Hope, our book being released summer of 2013.

How do you eat an elephant?
There is an old question that goes something like this:
Question: How do you eat an elephant?
Answer: One bite at a time.
The Quick Start Users Guide for the Bible will help with the Bible one bite at a time.
In the computer software industry, quick start manuals are very popular. Few people actually read the instruction manuals that come with the software. Give them a quick-start guide and they’re off and running, using the software without having to read the whole software manual. It’s a manual for a manual.
When more detail is needed, they can refer to the manual. The Quick Start Users Guide for the Bible works like that, designed to help you understand the Bible without having to read the whole Bible.
This Quick Start guide is organized around a series of questions that real people, just like you and I, have asked from time to time.
The questions form the table of contents for the book, so you can jump around reading whatever interests you at that time.
As with most Quick Start manuals and guides, it is not a replacement for actually reading the Bible, just a device to help you get started with reading and studying it.
It is my desire that you get to know what the Bible has to say. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised as you browse.
jims%20picture.JPGQuestions, do you have questions?
I wrote this book to help people, like myself, who may have tried to understand the Bible, or have been intimidated by it. In the beginning of my study of the Bible, I spent hours trying to get the hang of it. I got lost reading long lists of names I couldn’t even figure out how to pronounce. The book of Leviticus contained lists of rules and regulations. Were they for me?
How could I ever learn what the Bible was saying? I did not want to skip here and there in reading… what to do?
Without some guidance I was lost. What were the rules for reading the Bible? Were there any? So, for a long time I gave up and set the Bible back on the bookshelf. Time and again I picked up the Bible and started over again. Finally, after years of going through this process, I got the message, and my life has not been the same since. It was my lack of understanding of how the Bible is organized that kept me from understanding it. The problem was that there just wasn’t anything written in a simple, easy to read format outlining the Bible. So, I decided to write this book.
With this book you will learn the structure, organization, and story of the Bible. Getting a handle on these elements, it will be easier to understand what the Bible is saying.
First Some Trivia
Is this a Biblical saying?
God helps those who help themselves.
Even though it is a popular belief, God helps those who help themselves,
is not in the Bible. Not only that, but the saying is contrary to what the Bible teaches. In the Bible, God reaches down to save helpless man. Man can do nothing to help himself where salvation is concerned. We are also instructed to take all of our circumstances to God and petition Him for the answers.
Joshua, or Jesus?
What is the difference between these names? The answer is that they are actually the same name. The difference is the way the translators handled the name in Hebrew and Greek. In the Old Testament it’s Joshua and in the New Testament it’s Jesus.
The definition below is from Strong’s Concordance. The name Jesus is the transliteration of the Greek translation. 2424. Iesous, ee-ay-sooce’;
