About this ebook

What is my attitude towards Israel? What prompted me to arrive at such a position? Am I prepared to examine the scriptures and go along with its teaching or do I just follow the crowd?
Ray Beattie gently leads us through scriptures and leaves us in no doubt how we, as Christians, should view Israel.
This book is an easy read with the author giving some of his personal experiences but mostly it is a challenge to accept or reject the Word of God.
In the light of rapidly changing events in Israel and the Middle East this is a must read for every local church.

Author

Ray A Beattie

After a career in Banking, the author turned his attention to his enduring passion – Israel. For several years he has led groups to Israel, visiting in particular, Biblical sites throughout the country. Now living in Scotland, he has an active role in his local church and loves to speak about all things pertaining to Israel. His first book addressed the negativity which many churches have towards Israel and looked at this from a Biblical standpoint. In 2014 he was named as an Ambassador of Goodwill for Tourism by the Minister of Tourism in Israel in recognition of his love for Israel.

    INTRODUCTION

T he nation of Israel is tiny by any standards. You can drive from one end to the other easily within a day and yet despite its size it is always in the news. It is a nation which polarises opinions. Jewish folk and Arabs both vie for possession of the land and recent history has been one of bitter conflict and seemingly there is no answer to this vexing problem. The Jewish nation has experienced dreadful atrocities perpetrated against it and in 1948 established itself as a recognised state in the land. This immediately led to wars and conflicts as the Arab residents did not recognise the new state of Israel.

As Christians we recognise that the gospel of Jesus Christ is for all no matter what their ethnicity and our love should be toward all men because Christ has loved us in equal measure. How then can we square the circle? What should our view be toward the Jew and Arab? What has God’s word to say about this situation if anything?

If you are confused or not sure where you stand in relation to this issue it is my hope that this book will clarify your thoughts. Scripture has a lot to say about our attitude in this matter and I want to take you through it. Put aside all your preconceived ideas and quietly reflect on what the word says.

It is my earnest desire that the Lord will speak to you as you meditate and spend time with Him.

    Can we depend on

    God’s promises?

I t seems a long time ago, I recall, that as a family we sat around the tea table on a Sunday afternoon and before we ate we took turns to extract a promise with tweezers from the promise box. It became a ritual which as children we enjoyed, not so much for the biblical promises, but for the fascination of taking out a tightly rolled scroll, reading it aloud, and then putting it back the other way up so that a red colour was visible thus showing which of the scrolls had been read. It was the time following the Second World War and certain items of food were still rationed. For all this, families pulled together and were probably closer units than at the present time and although as children we did not appreciate it, available funds had to be wisely spent. The family rule at tea was jam on every second piece of bread. On one occasion there was a disagreement between my brother and me because we both reckoned that it
