About this ebook

Beyond Intellectual and Emotional Intelligence, there is another field of knowledge that is less visible but no less real: Spiritual Understanding. Even though the Bible affirms that the Spirit searches the God's depths and reveals it to us,1 many people think that this divine knowledge is reserved only for mystics and religious leaders.
But the Bible was not written to found cults or religions but rather to
reveal what is in the heart of the Creator to use, and to give us life. This is why it says that we live by every Word that comes from the mouth of God.2 Only the Bible contains the Word that comes from His mouth and stems from His heart. 3 If you know His Word, you also know His heart, His will. This is what the Apostle Paul calls Spiritual Understanding.4

God has plans for your life and that of your descendants, and you have a transcendent role in each of them, but you cannot achieve your purpose if you do not know the will of The One who created you. And to get to know someone there is nothing better than entering into a friendship. Allow me to help you get to know Him. Only by knowing the Holy Spirit can you activate all the potential that He has put inside of you.

    "But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit;

    for the Spirit searches all things,

    yes, the deep things of God."

    1 Corinthians 2:10

    PROLOGUE

    A PPROXIMATELY BETWEEN THE years 60-64 of this era, Paul, from Rome, wrote to the church at Colossus: " …we…do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will [of God] in all wisdom and spiritual understanding ." ¹ These two words together (spiritual understanding) are not repeated in the whole Bible; however, the Greek word that is translated as understanding (sunesis, which means: to put together mentally, understanding, knowledge ²), appears also when Jesus, only twelve years old, appeared in the temple seated with the teachers of the law: "And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding [sunesis] and his answers." ³ But it probably was not the way that Jesus knew the texts of the Law from memory that amazed the rabbis and scholars, but His deep understanding and interpretation together with the real application to their daily lives that that little boy showed them. Jesus lived what He said; He lived the Word openly. In fact, He is the Word. In both cases, the Bible is talking to us about an understanding deeper than the intellectual, of a greater capacity than the mental or emotional; this sunesis means true wisdom manifested as the level of knowledge of the will of God. In other words: if someone deeply knows the will of God, and faithfully uses this knowledge and puts it into practice, he has much Spiritual Understanding, and, on the contrary, if he ignores the will of God, he has little Spiritual Understanding. Jesus only does the will of the Father; He was never outside of it, not for an instant, which shows us the greatest Spiritual Understanding possible, the peak of spiritual genius.

    For his part, Paul, already old, wrote: "But the anointing which you received from Him [Jesus] abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you…"⁴ The apostle is referring to the same Spiritual Understanding, manifested as a stream of wisdom that does not need a master. He calls attention to the fact that this anointing (unguent, oil), is not born within the believers but is received from Jesus and then remains in the receivers of the letter, which is all of the Church of Christ.

    Lastly, Jesus did not only confirm the anterior but He also clearly explained that the Holy Spirit directly grants this knowledge: "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth…" ⁵ And this anointing that John mentions that comes from God, is God Himself, as Jesus also says: "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you."

    God has a will that is good, pleasing and perfect ⁷ for your life and that of your family and descendants. He has plans for humanity during this life and in Eternity, and you and I have a transcendent role in these plans, but we cannot fulfill the purpose of our life if we don’t know the will of Him that created you. When someone goes to work, he tries to do what he prepared for (because he likes it and does it well), and he frequently will speak with his supervisor so that he [the supervisor] will explain what his role is and what is expected of him; what result is expected to be produced. Also he will want to know what his decision-making rank is (what he can decide for himself and for what he should consult his manager first); and of course what he will receive, in exchange, in the form of compensation, rights, and benefits. But when we ignore God, we act like someone who goes into an office without ever having spoken with his boss and doesn’t look for him; someone who doesn’t know what he would like to do or could do there, who doesn’t know what he is expected to do because he doesn’t even know the name of his job or the company; and begins to work blindly, doing whatever occurs to him, without knowing how he will be compensated. Do you think that he could be successful in that place? Would it be possible to get a deep satisfaction in what he is doing and also be paid well? Of course not; in a few minutes he will be politely escorted to the exit door by security… Let us return to our Creator, leave our arrogance and independence aside and develop Spiritual understanding to be filled with the knowledge of His will. Only then will we have access to His guidance and His blessings and promises. For centuries and generations we have been rebels, believing that our will is better than His, that our own plans will bring us to a better life and that we don’t need Him, but the results are clearly visible: humanity has reached unimaginable levels of development in science and technology, showing a superior Intellectual Understanding, but many of the greatest technological advances come out of preparation for war (low Spiritual Understanding). The research and development in the area of human behavior in sciences such as psychology and sociology, have been nothing less than impressive and fascinating, but a good part of this knowledge has been used
