    About The Author

I dedicate this in memory of my grandfather who was and will always be my hero. And in memory of my father who I know with all my heart is in heaven, with my grandfather, this very moment. They both earned their place with God.

None of us know what makes us the way we are; what gives us the desire to live instead of taking the alternative way out of a devastating situation; why things happen when they do and the way they do; what makes us strong enough to make it through those times that we ask, Why am I here. Some would say that all this is fixed before we are even thought of. Some would say that events are coincidental. Some would say that everything happens for a reason. I would say that faith takes care of it all. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

    Chapter 1

This is a story of one woman’s faith journey. She had always believed that there was a God. The only introduction that she had been given while growing up was attending church with her granddaddy in a tiny town in North Carolina. But it just didn’t seem right for her. She visited many churches over the years with friends after her grandfather died, but none of them felt right. Finally, a friend invited her to a Lutheran Church close to her home now in South Carolina. The people treated her like she had always been a part of their congregation. After a few years, she decided to be baptized and become a member of this church family.

In order to get a little more familiar with this woman, we’ll call her Becky, and her journey to faith, we need to travel back in time. Her mother had tried several times to have children but would miscarry early in the pregnancy. She stayed in bed most of the months that she carried Becky. Becky was born in an Asheboro, North Carolina clinic on May 10, Mother’s Day, weighing only five pounds and two ounces.

Becky was always following her father, Frank, around even as a toddler. She was so bad about sneaking out after him that her parents put a latch on the outside of the screen door so he could latch it when he went to work. Becky’s mother, Genette, heard a horrible scream and ran immediately toward the back door. It wasn’t latched. She went out onto the 12-foot high porch and saw Becky’s small two-year old body lying lifeless on the ground. She didn’t know what to do. There was no 911 emergency to call back then. The closest place to call was a nearby medical clinic. The doctor that she spoke to told her that she had to get Becky into the house. The small body was twisted half way around from the waist. She was turning blue. The doctor tells Genette that she must twist her child’s body back or she would suffocate. "Take a hold of her
