      Prologue

      December 2010 was the month we received the worst news we would ever want to hear: your mother has Stage-4 lung cancer. She wasn’t even a smoker. My father and I started our year-long journey with mom’s illness in January 2011.

      I visited my parents monthly, sometimes more frequently, throughout that year to attend meetings with her oncologist. Things were going well and we thought we had the cancer under control. Unfortunately, in August of 2011, our hopes were shattered. We were told that the tumors were still growing and different chemo treatments needed to begin that month. This appointment was running late, and my father had to leave
