About this ebook

What is so Special About Normandy?
Normandy is known mostly as a place of battle.
War was known in Normandy all the way back to the roman times.
We know Julius Caesar came in and famously defeated All of
Gaul, as it was called then. The war lasted from 58BC-50BC
(BC dates go backwards). Julius Caesar himself gives the best
known details of the war in his own book Commentarii de Bello
Gallico. Winning the Gallic Wars was a big deal because it
helped Caesar become the ruler of the Roman Republic.
Who was William the Conquerer?
William was born in 1027 and his father, named Robert, was the
duke of normandy. When William was 8 years old, is dad left
him to go on a pilgramage (a pilgramage is a journey someone
takes to a Holy place. The Duke went to Jerusalem.) Left
alone, William had to fight a lot against the lords of Normandy.

Author

Shark Baynard

Holland and Shark are brothers living in Wilmington, NC. Holland (13) and Shark (a.k.a Harrison, 8) enjoy learning history through their adventures and teaching it to others. This is the boys’ third book. The boys previously released Holland Goes to Rome and Holland goes to Pompeii and they enjoy managing and operating their own production company, HCB International. They are often found playing basketball, tennis, crabbing, fishing, or sailing. Holland and Shark describe why Normandy is important and answer some of the confusing issues that surround WWII and its history. The book teaches the story of the memorial shore beginning with Caesar’s Gallic Wars and ending in the defeat of Germany explained through the voice of a child. Children and adults both will enjoy learning about King William, King Edward, D-day and the Invasion of Normandy at an elementary and middle grade level that is fun for all.
