PROLOGUE

We were in a store several years ago when my wife, Laura, saw a small item on a shelf. It looked like a small loaf of bread, it was plastic and opened on the top. Neatly placed in the opened area were small cards, each with a scripture on front and back. Laura’s eye were shining as she remembered her Aunt Gladys house as a child. There on the shelf, all those years ago, a little girl excitedly pulled a card out each day to read God’s word.

The next Christmas, Laura opened a small package to find a small plastic loaf of bread that contained the scriptures, the item was call Your Daily Bread. From that day forward, Laura emailed the contents of the card to my work email address each day. I found strength in the scriptures. I am certain I would have failed and just went home many days, if not for the daily bread.

Over time, I started forwarding the email to my associates. Time passed, things changed and God spoke to me about a different message. Although I was given a slightly different direction, our Lord was consistent in His message to me, God wants to be involved in every part of our lives, including the workplace! Each morning, God would lead me to a scripture and a prayer. Sometimes, I was awakened in the wee hours, other days, God was slow to give me the daily scripture and prayer. The email list kept getting larger, many people received the words, given by our Lord every day.

The thought of publishing a book, never entered my mind. But God, has His own plans and I can only hope to hear and obey. God has taught that life is not about me, it is about Him. God created each of us with a purpose in mind. Each of us were birthed with skills and abilities chosen by God himself for the task we were created to accomplish. I have been humbled by life and taught by God that I need to pray daily to assure I am doing what God created me to do.

The format, editing and wording may be much different from other books you have read as I am not a professional writer. I am just a guy trying to do what God created me to do.

I pray and hope in some way, God will touch you and bless you as you read the daily prayers. Most of all, I pray that God will speak to you about His will for your life.

THE CROSS

We all come to that place and that time when Jesus calls us to meet Him at the cross. Where we go from there, what we do from that point in time, shapes our lives for all of eternity.

Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. And they divided His garments and cast lots.

Luke 23:24

Lord

All day long I could sense Your presence, I knew You were talking to me. As I sat in church tonight You gave me a vision. I sat there in a really nice chair, with air condition, in a beautiful building that seats 20000 people each weekend. The preacher talked, the message You gave him came across a sound system that cost a lot of money. I had spent the entire day, in comfort. I made no sacrifice, nothing was asked of me, I spent the day doing as I pleased. My life is comfortable. I want for nothing, I have food to eat, a roof above my head, car, job, money and little is asked of me.

I awake now in the wee hours to a loud banging noise that only exists in my mind. My arms are tired Lord, and I cannot figure out why. In this dream Lord, I am walking and then crawling and this noise, this banging just will not stop. My arms just keep getting more and more tired. I’m so weak that I cannot walk so I am crawling along until I just cannot crawl any longer. I am helpless, unable to go another step, unable to do anything for myself. I have come to a place where the banging noise is so loud it hurts my ears. I can finally see what is causing the noise. I have a hammer in my hand, it’s me Lord and I am driving a nail through Your hand. I have come to a place where I cannot continue, a place of pain, shame and embarrassment. I am there, with all of the good things in my life but they cannot help me, I cannot stop the banging and I cannot find rest for my arms. I am at the cross.

You are sacrificing Yourself. You have been beaten, You are bloody and You are nailed to a cross. You are hanging, naked in front of the world. The sign above Your head says I died for You; I died so You can live. Lord, I am overwhelmed. I am stopped, dead in my tracks to know that You had the ability to stop all the pain and suffering at any time. And now to find out that I was the one driving the nails, well, there are no words. I am at the cross Lord. I have come to a place where I have to let myself go and realize this is all about You. I can no longer worry about earthly things; I realize I am not capable of providing these things for myself anyway. I need to stop planning what I am going to do and start realizing that only the things You do through me, have any value. I need to allow You to do things through me. I am at the cross, speak to me now Lord, tell me what to do.

OUR GOD IS A GREAT BIG GOD

There are days when we just look at the world and say Wow, You are really something Lord Those days open doors, and create those special moments for God to minister to us.

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corinthians 1:9

Lord

It’s me again. And again today, I am overwhelmed when I think about You and all You are. You remember I was driving home, and there was that sunset over those trees, the green grass, blue sky and a scattering of soft clouds. It took my breath, I just couldn’t believe what You had done and to know all You had to do was think it and it was. I remember that squirrel, do You, he was climbing that tree with a great big piece of corn bread in his mouth? You made him too, didn’t You? You own everything Lord, it all belongs to You.

I thought about all You have created and all You have done, and I cried, I was overwhelmed. I came home needing your word, needing to know more about You. My mind cannot imagine anymore or anything as big as You. All I can think, all I can dream and I cannot even come close to You. Then I read this scripture and find that we were called to fellowship with You. You created us, because You wanted someone to love, You wanted fellowship, You wanted me, it blows my mind!

So now Lord, help us all remember when we feel alone, when we are laughed at, mocked, ridiculed, cast out, made to feel inadequate that You, God of the Universe, created us to fellowship with You. You made the sun, moon, everything in between, the grass and the stars, and yes even me, just because You wanted to. That’s good.

In Jesus name, because there is no greater name

OUR WORK NEEDS TO BE ANOINTED BY GOD

Work means different things to different people. How important is it? Are we doing what God created us to do? Anoint our work Lord, else we will fail

For they all were trying to make us afraid, saying, their hands will be weakened in the work, and it will not be done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

Nehemiah 6:9

Lord

It’s me again, thankful for what You have done and what You have given me. Weekends are so special Lord and this past one was wonderful. Lord, no matter how good things are, I always have a need to pray to You. I always need Your guidance and direction. I want to make certain that I bring everything to You. I want You to make the decisions in my life; I mean, look at some of the crazy choices I have made.

Our work becomes such a big part of our lives. I know we make it too important but Lord, I ask You, how important is it? It seems like some work is better than others. There are all different kinds of jobs that require different levels of commitment. The story of Nehemiah made Your book of instructions. I know he led the people to rebuild the wall, is this why the book of Nehemiah is in the Bible? You are worthy of all our praise and You are to be glorified in whatever we do. Nehemiah put all his trust in You. An impossible job was completed because he followed Your directions, praised You and made certain You were the one glorified. Help me Lord with my work. I want my work to have a purpose. I want my work to glorify You.

I will say as Nehemiah did, O God, strengthen my hands. Lord, I will praise You when all goes right and I will praise You when all goes wrong. Just be with me and strengthen my hands! Most of all Lord help me make certain that my work stays in the proper priority. You have given me so many opportunities and now, I give them back to You. You will direct me, You will help me, and You will give me the grace to honor You. Like always Lord, I stand in need of prayer

GET AWAY FROM ME SATAN!

We give the devil far too much credit. He has been chained, defeated and now spends his time trying to get us to destroy ourselves.

Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.

Numbers 23:20

Lord

It’s me again; I smile at the location of today’s word. Numbers? Lord, You know we struggle with Numbers. Reading the book, Numbers can be so difficult. But as I pray each day, Lord, teach me Your ways, guide me and direct me, so today, it is Numbers. As I read the section about Balaam and Balak I see once again, how powerful You are.

What You have said will be done! You blessed the Hebrews and took them to the promise land. On the way things happened, Balak wanted the children of Israel to be cursed. He tried every trick but what You have blessed cannot be cursed. Satan still tries to curse what You have blessed today. He tries to call us away from You, out of Your green pasture so he can destroy us. As long as we stay where we are blessed he is powerless. Satan has been called many things, many names; today I will call him the owner of the restless spirit, nothing more than a rebel rouser. This monster tries to call us out of our blessed place in life, out of our marriages, makes us unhappy with what we have, shows us how to covet, and tells us we are not appreciated on our job. We are told anything that may put division between You and us. He is a coward, he is evil and invisible.

Lord, what you have blessed cannot be cursed. Help us Lord, give us enough wisdom to see through the devil’s murderous plans. Let us stand in Your shadow, praising and glorifying our God and Father. Knowing the blood of our Savior washed us clean, makes us Holy and set apart from the evil one. What You have blessed cannot be cursed. And if today I am bothered, if today I am troubled or if I am sad, or confused I will wait for JOY COMES IN THE MORNING. I have been blessed; I cannot be cursed

In a day when so many bad things can happen to our children, when so many of the stories we hear each chill us to the bone, we must care and protect our little girls. Someday they will be Wives and Mothers.

Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come… Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her

Lord

It’s me again coming to rest at the end of Your day. It was wonderful, it was complete and challenging, I hope You were pleased with how we responded to our circumstances.

You said it is not good for man to be alone You made woman, what a glorious thing You have done. You put her in a place where she would silently rule her household. She is to seek counsel and obtain approval first when indeed all the time it was her, the woman that rules the house. What is the value of a virtuous woman, Lord? Where does her training start, to learn such tenderness, calmness, strength and wisdom. You breathed the skills into their souls when You created their lives but we all learn every day, especially the very young. So Lord, I want to pray today for the daughters and granddaughters of man. Help us Lord to care for these delicate vessels. Protect them Lord from harm and experiences that scar their spirit for life. Please help these ladies know that they are special, and needed by the world so very much. Show them Lord how special they are, help them learn to laugh, think, live and experience life. Guide and direct them as they agree to take a
