About this ebook

The family is the basic building block of society. The family unit, though a small part, is a very important part of society. Good homes mean a good society, and the reverse is true in all cultures. This is why the health of the family is a matter of importance to all societies worldwide. Unfortunately, the family is the most endangered unit of modern society. It is assaulted by divorce, emptiness, poverty, and many other ills.
In this book, When Your Home is on Fire written by my son in the Lord, Pastor Kola Ogidi, the author shows us that there are many beautiful houses that do not contain beautiful homes. This, unfortunately, is the tragedy of the 21st Century civilized society. Having failed to build the home front, everything else that modern man has built is crumbling right before his eyes! Now, all right-thinking people worldwide are calling attention to the need to strengthen the family as a fundamental weapon towards the eradication of the various social and moral ills of todays society. That is where this book comes in.
Pastor Ogidi has, in this masterpiece, shed refreshing light on the marriage institu-tion. He has diagnosed the causes of fire in homes. Then he went ahead to proffer practic-al, time-tested solutions to myriad marital problems. In doing so, he did not resort to mere social or psychological counseling. His therapy for burning homes is deliberately biblical at the core. And I think this is the high point of the book, for the word of God is sure to prosper where all else has failed. The Bible says,
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11
That is why I recommend this book to all persons whose homes are presently under fire. Through this book, God shall surely deliver you. More importantly, everyone who desires a peaceful and joyful home should read this book. Prevention is better than cure. As you study this book and apply the lessons therein, your home shall never come under fire; rather it shall be heaven on earth in Jesus name (Amen).
God bless you.

    INTRODUCTION

There are many beautiful houses that don’t contain beautiful homes. By this I mean they have beautiful architectural structures void of peace, love and joy. Many men and women who go around in flowing and gorgeous dresses are carrying a lot of burdens in their hearts that only Jesus can address. Ironically, the saddest moment in the lives of many is their job closing hour; the time they will have to go back to the house full of despair and frustration. The first question that comes to their mind is ‘WHAT AM I GOING TO MEET AT HOME NOW?’ especially if there were unresolved issues before they left. When it is easier to talk to outsiders than it is to your family members, something is wrong! Your family should be a support system, a safety—net to catch you when you fall. We like to envision family as a hard-working dad, a stay-at-home mom, two children and a house with a white picket fence. But for many people, family means money problems, troubled kids and warring spouses. It takes a big dose of grace to make it all work! Every family has its ups and downs. And every family tree produces a few nuts. In fact, sometimes the best part is underground! But if you bail out when things get tough, you’ll miss the rewards you’d have gotten by hanging on. Somebody said the difference between courtship and marriage is like the difference between the pictures in a seed catalogue and what actually comes up! But it doesn’t have to be that way. God created husband and wife for companionship, mutual help and procreation. Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Of all that God created the only thing He disapproved of was for man to be alone. However He didn’t pretend about it. He quickly took a step. Genesis 2:18 (NKJV) And the Lord God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.’’ God saw the need for a man and woman to live together that was why He created a woman for Adam. Not just a woman but a compatible one. Beloved, God is too great to make a mistake. If He brought both of you together, He has His reason for doing so. You may call it the mistake of your life, but understand that if God wanted to stop it He had several ways of doing so. The fire burning in your home today could be as a result of one or two little things you both need to put right. Many a times our approaches to simple matters could result in great failures in our lives. But if we realise our mistakes and retrace our steps all can be well again. Our frustration can be turned around as it did for this man in the next story. In India during the colonial days, most of the villagers worked as peasants for the village landlords and got a very small share of the crops and a token money in return for the hard work they put all day in the field. One year, the village witnessed one of the severest droughts ever. Most of the villagers fled to the cities. One of the villagers was particularly in a very bad state. His wife was suffering from malaria and in the absence of food or money he was desperate. One day, as he sat under the village tree thinking desperately about ways to get some money so that he could take his wife and his children to the town, where he knew that somehow he would get some work, he then saw his cow wandering nearby munching the dried up patches of grass and bushes. He suddenly had a thought to sell his cow. Surely someone would like to buy her, he thought. Next day, early morning, he started for the market. There, he stood under a tree and explained his plight to anyone who came and requested them to buy his cow. Nobody seemed to be least interested. The day wore by. With sweat drenched dirty clothes and in the poor state of health he was looking pitiable. As evening was approaching, he was losing all hope he had started with. Then a merchant passed him. He looked at the peasant and with a sudden drive of compassion decided to help him sell the cow. He asked a few questions and then, in a loud voice full of enthusiasm, he announced to the passers by, "Ladies and gentlemen, never let go an opportunity like this. This cow here, gives 2 bucketsful of milk everyday, morning and evening. Do not be mistaken by her health. It is just because she has recently given birth to a young calf. This animal is of such an exceptional breed that last year she won a prize during the agricultural exhibition of the neighboring village. My
