    What is Meditation?

There is no definitive answer to this, since meditation is a unique experience. Each of us connects to the universe in our own way. For some that connection is linked to God, Goddess, Divinity, Jesus, Kwan Yin, Source, Universe, Spirit or Higher Consciousness. Others connect to a space within the self; a quiet space away from the cares and stresses of daily life.

There are many ways to meditate. There is centered prayer, which can be done in silence or with a mantra (e.g. OM) repeated in the mind or spoken out loud. Gregorian chants, yoga, dancing to music, gardening, fishing or playing golf are some other forms of meditation.

Meditation can also be used in a structured way to help focus on specific ideas or outcomes. For example by taking a specific problem into a meditative state a person can sometimes get a different insight into it. This can help to resolve the problem or show a different path to take.

The meditations in this book use visualization and imagery, with specific goals in mind. By using the power of our minds we can change ourselves into more confident, stress free human beings. We can use the mind to help heal the self, rather than relying solely on outside agencies. Meditation is not an alternative but an addition to more conventional medicine. We can become partners in our health not just bystanders.

It is not enough to work solely on healing the self. We are all connected, one to each other and to all things. The Earth is our Mother. Our Father
