Guides for Health & Longevity - Alison Laura Goodman
1. Introduction
The book is guides for healthy living which will help anyone elongate his or her lifespan in this sinful world. The title of this treatise could therefore be How to live longer
but nowadays because of the problems of survival in this precarious world, many prefer to go early. We know of course that a rational man will think twice before destroying his God given soul. For a Christian, this is out of the question because it is a mortal sin. The soul does not belong to mortals, it is God’s property given to us with love. We are enjoined to keep it nourished and safe until we are called upon to return it by the Owner, the Lord and Landlord of the universe.
Many people do not realise that their life span is dependent on a number of things. It is not a question of luck, it is strict compliance and obedience with divine laws and the law of nature; coupled with good food and lifestyle. It is therefore incumbent on us to search the scriptures and other sacred books, to ascertain and establish beyond reasonable doubt why we are destined to live long and can live longer if we want to.
The Landlord and creator of this great wonderful world have plans for his creatures. He did not put us on planet earth just to eat and make merry, live a short life and then take our exit. We are all numbered, every one of us; each with his talent to develop and utilise in the discharge of his assignment here on earth. His plan is not to take any one away from the earth surface before he fulfils his mission. Unless there is a breach of God’s golden rules, or failure to adhere to his will in our daily struggle for survival, our destined life span is assured.
You can therefore significantly change the day you will die by taking the right measures to comply with the Creator’s tenancy agreement and arrangement contained in His code of conduct the Bible. Everything is in this great book, inspired by God for our guidance and direction on how to survive and elongate our life span in this insidious world; and become members of his family in the world to come.
If you are discerning, even without reading scriptural writings, you would have noticed that this world is like a stage where everyone plays a part to make an impression or achieve a goal. In the world stage, it is to achieve the overall plan of God for the emancipation of mankind. In the expected new earth, where love reigns supreme is full of challenges and difficulties for the mortal mind versed in evil thought and deeds. It is therefore imperative that we learn the discipline and culture necessary and appropriate in the world to come.
To go to heaven as some imagine, or live in the new earth as stated in the Bible, is not as simple and easy as some contemplate. It is a serious affair, and in many ways extremely dangerously because it is a matter of survival of the fittest in terms of spiritual growth. You must learn to carry your cross and follow Christ—for He is the way, the truth and the life; no one can get into his new world except through Him. It is a world without sin this much I know; and by any stretch of human imagination this cannot be an easy affair.
What you have learnt and begun today, may alter and lengthen the quality of life you will enjoy here now and in the world to come. Take the first step to improve on your body hygiene and the quality of the food you give your body and soul. Give your body and spirit adequate nutrition and clean fresh air. Stay close to God’s code of behaviour and abide always with the laws of nature. Your body requires optimal amounts of various vitamins and minerals at different stages of life—pay attention to these, because this approach would definitely delay the ageing process and elongate life span
Baring accidents due to carelessness, genetic disorder which could be hereditary for some reason, and breaches of divine law, your life span will respond to the quality of nutrition and lifestyle you adopt. Your choice of food and appropriate vitamins and minerals is paramount to the extra years of quality life and fun you will get. Do not ignore them; you can only do so to your own peril.

2. Brief History of Medicine
Pre-historic man knew little or nothing about the workings of the body; diseases were explained as spirit attacks, attacks from witches and wizards, etc. Treatments were carried out by juju men
and witch doctors.
Initial understanding of the workings of the human body came from the Romans, the Egyptians and the Greeks. The Egyptians were learned about Anatomy
the study of the human body. The Romans were able to develop public health systems across their vast empire. We must not forget the Greek physician Hippocrates who made the first impressive significant contribution to modern day medicine that his name still reverberates in medical circles to-day.
There is a tendency to forget the Chinese who made much in-road in the field of medicine. There enormous contribution is not always recognised because of poor documentation and lack of sufficient interest by Western civilisation. In all ancient civilisation however, natural and supper natural approaches continued side by side.
Between the 16th and 18th century, medical science gained more momentum—thanks to the physicians and scientists such as William Harvey, Lavosier, Edward Jenner, James Lind and others who emerged and mad great discoveries relating to health and medicine.
The Industrial Revolution also played a significant role in creating the need and opportunity for more development in human health. It created opportunity for tremendous progress in all areas of medicines such as vaccinations, germ theory, anaesthetics and improvement in nursing and hospital management.
The 21st century witnessed rapid improvement in drugs and surgery, and the research efforts in many parts of the world yielded enormous dividend health-wise to mankind.
During this period, Government and private sectors invested much more on research and health technology.
Complementary medicine has become increasingly more popular in recent years. A growing number of people are now consulting alternative medical practitioners for treatments; and the use of alternative remedies has become considerably more wide spread. Modern doctors these days are more likely to refer some patients to alternative practitioners or recommend the use of alternative treatments.
It must be recognised however, that there is not enough evidence of how some alternative medicines work or the safety and efficacy of these remedies. Although the number of studies being carried out is increasing, only little research has been done into the incidence and severity of the adverse effects caused by the different alternative remedies.
3. Chinese Medicine
The roots of Chinese medicine can be traced back to several thousand years. Its components are derived from Chinese philosophy; including such principles as Yin/Yang theory, Wu Xing (five phases) and Qi or vital energy
.
Great emphasis is placed on the examination of the tongue and pulse in diagnosis. From theses a lot of information about the constitution and the relative strength of any pathogens or imbalances within the body can be determined.
Herbal medicine consists of the use of a combination of individual herbs into a formula. These medicines are available as pills, powders, tinctures, capsules which make them much more convenient to take. As well as herbs for internal use, they can be applied as lotions, medicated plasters and creams for bruising, sprains, skin conditions, aches and pains.
Qi—vital energy cover the body connecting channels—external and internal. Vital energy flows in these channels maintaining normal physiology. If this flow of Qi becomes disordered or deficient, the symptoms of illness arise. Needling points along these channels can help restore normal Qi flow and re-balance the body.
