    Introduction

IF YOU HAVE EVER SAID YES TO THE LORD AND nothing changed, this book is for you. It was for me, because that was exactly my question to the Lord. I mean I am a professional yes Lord servant. I say yes Lord from deep within my soul yet there are so many times when nothing happens. It’s true, nothing, no change, no emotions; nothing. My mouth was dry and my voice was tired. My hands were red from clapping long and hard; but I must tell the truth, nothing changed. I was emotionally drained and I believe that I meant it when I told the Lord Yes. I kind of felt lifted but it wasn’t anything deep. The mystery did not unfold until I heard the Lord say, YIELD. I began to study it and meditate on this ordinary word that honestly, made me think about traffic and the off ramp yields. I have no spiritual revelation but I was so sure that God was showing me something. So I kept at it.

I actually thought that this book was supposed to be a song written to encourage sinners to get saved. At the same time it was supposed to help the saints move into a greater surrender to God. But, as you can see, it’s not a song; not yet anyway. Any song writers who read this book know that I have dibs on the title.

Give God a Yes and a Yield was first titled Yield, a word for lovers of God. In the secondary stage of this writing I could see clearer that God was giving me an answer to a question that I asked him a while before. The question was something like; why doesn’t our yes Lord work like it did for the generation before us? I like asking God questions like that; it makes sense to me to ask God rather than listen for a word to come to my spirit on something. God let us know that if we asked it shall be given. The answer to why our yes Lord doesn’t work like it did for the generation before us is Yield. The yes Lord must come with a yield or it’s just not enough. God, by making us creatures of choice, gives us the requirements of a yes Lord, making our will subject to his will. We are pretty good at giving God permission to get us out of a hard place or crisis or trouble of some kind or another. We don’t have trouble giving him permission. Where we get into trouble is when we have to step out of the way and let God take over the situation the way he sees is best for all who are involved.

I felt lead of God to write this short book because of the simplicity of a common failure; the failure to yield. It’s easy and can become an automatic response once you get the concept. I wanted to get the concept across to help the saints understand that the Yes Lord prayer or praise should be followed by a yield. The yes gives permission and the yield moves us out of the way of the power and move of God. I mean, most church people would say that yield is implied when we
