About this ebook

My book is an inspirational story of hope, courage, and determination. As an immigrant, I had a career burnout. I lost my memory and couldnt function as depression sank in. I told my husband my brain was cooked and my life was over. In my book, I write about my life-changing encounter with destiny. I look at the fundamental question of what is our purpose here. My readers will also find that they can withstand the storms of life if they focus on the right source. You can rise again too. You dont have to settle for second best!

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my soul partner and best friend Ren, who stood by me through thick and thin. I have written this book especially for my three children and their future wives so they can have a legacy to pass down to their children. I want them to see what life as pioneers involves. Thanks to my mother who encouraged me to write my testimony into a book. Thanks to my son Etienne for designing the cover.

    Foreword

This book provides hope and courage to the reader. It shows how we can move towards living life to the full despite the challenges and setbacks we face. It encourages you to live an abundant life. You don’t have to settle for second best when you have God directing your life.

My comforting verse through my deepest challenges is Psalm 23:4: ‘Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.’

This comfort is also found in Isaiah 43:2-3a: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God.’

One of my popular daily devotional writers, Andrew Roebert says: ‘Life is not always easy nor does it run as we had hoped. Sometimes we pass through challenging seasons. It may even feel like you are going through a fiery experience. But the Lord is your God and He will be with you, have no fear.’¹ This is an excellent source to draw strength from.

    Part One

    Living in Australia,

    the Great South Land

    of the Holy Spirit

Australia is fondly known as ‘The Land Down Under’ in many parts of the world. History tells us that in 1606, Portuguese sailor Pedro Fernández de Quirós searched for this new land and called it Austrialia del Espíritu Santo or ‘Great South Land of the Holy Spirit’.²

I immigrated to Australia with my family in August 2002 and got a job in Moree, north-west of New South Wales. By that stage, a research paper had just been written on the Aboriginal community there titled ‘What Works’. I have a research and curriculum major at Master’s Level in Education. I was duly appointed learning support coordinator for senior Aboriginal students at risk of not completing Year 12.

In January 2003, I developed and conducted the ‘Retention Program’ for Years 11 and 12 Aboriginal students at Moree Secondary College. God was gracious to me and gave me the wisdom, understanding, patience, and perseverance to work with the students, their parents and elders, and the school community. In that first year of running my program, a record number of seventeen students sat for their external higher school certificate, and they all completed it. This was a first-time record for Aboriginal students in Moree. Praise God!

Moree is famous for its artesian
