    Introduction

Ever since the 1970s, with the increased terrorist attacks against Israelis by the PLO (under the leadership of the late Yasser Arafat), and the taking of American hostages in Iran for 444 days in 1979, radical Islam has been on the rise throughout the world. Like it or not, the West must now face the sobering reality that Islam is growing quickly, with an estimated 1.5 billion adherents (about 22% of the world’s population), and is a clear and present danger to all free nations. Yet most non-Muslims in the West have little or no clue of what the Qur’an (Koran) teaches and what really motivates militant followers of Islam to do what they do.

The purpose of this book is to clearly and concisely explain the origin and beliefs of Islam, as taught in the Koran, and compare it to the Bible. Both cannot be true. One is the true revelation of God and the other is not. Also, to inform people everywhere of Islam’s main goal for the world (i.e., total domination of all mankind under a global caliphate), its false teachings and propaganda (spiritually and politically), and equip them to be able to refute it.

If Islam is going to be defeated in its plans to convert the whole world to Allah, freedom-loving people, and especially Christians, cannot be ignorant or apathetic. Cowardly retreat or passivity is not an option! We must move out in faith and tear down the walls of deception by shining the light of biblical truth into the darkness of Islam that holds every Muslim in spiritual bondage. If we, as Christians, say we care about the souls of Muslims, then we must tell them the truth. To not do so would be unloving and a denial of what we profess.

Even though radical Islam has been stepping up its vicious attacks against Christians all over the world, and especially in Africa, it is encouraging to know that the Lord Jesus assured us that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church (Matt. 16:18). No matter how bad things get in our world (and things are going to get much worse before Jesus returns), ultimately, God will destroy all the enemies of Christ, and He will reign forever with His people in His kingdom (Rev. 11:15). In the meantime, Christians are to go and confidently share the gospel of Jesus with every person, including precious, but spiritually lost, Muslims who need to hear it and be saved.

Remember, the harvest is truly great and victory is guaranteed, but more laborers are need to get the job done. Many Muslims desire to know how to have assurance of eternal life, which only the Lord Jesus can give. I believe the time is short as we near the end of the age. Thus, we must use every means available (one-on-one witnessing, books, tracts, DVDs, CDs, etc.) to expose the lies of Islam and present the gospel (good news) of salvation to Muslims everywhere, while there is still time.

    The Historical

    Beginning of Islam

Islam—once an obscure Middle Eastern religion—has grown to be the second largest religion in the world, with almost one and a half billion adherents (1/5 of earth’s population). Not only is it the dominant religion of North Africa, the Middle East, and some countries in the Far East (e.g. Bangladesh, Indonesia), due to liberal immigration policies, millions of Muslims are now settled in Europe, America, Canada, and Australia.

How will this eventually affect Western culture and does it pose a threat to our religious freedom as we know it today? More importantly, what are Islam’s main teachings concerning God, Jesus, and salvation and how do they compare with the Bible? The following will examine the teachings of Islam in light of the Bible.

[Note: Islam means to submit. One who believes and surrenders to Islamic beliefs is called a Muslim.]

    The Prophet of Allah

Islam was founded by an Arab named, Muhammad (A.D. 570-632; also spelled Mohammed), in Mecca. It was there that he was born into the pagan Quraysh tribe, which was in control of the city of Mecca (the dominant religious center for the pagan religions of Arabia) and acted as the custodian of the religious worship centered at the Ka’aba or Kabah (Arabic: cube which Muslims call the House of God), the square (cube-shaped) stone temple shrine where the chief practice was the worship of 360 various idols (one for each day of the year, according to the lunar calendar). According to some Middle Eastern scholars, one of the chief gods that the pre-Islamic Quraysh tribe was devoted to was the moon god, Allah.¹

According to Muslim tradition, at the age of 40, while engaged in a meditative retreat in a cave, Muhammad received his first revelation from God through the angel Gabriel² who told him to preach to the Arabs to bring them religious purity (i.e., worship and submit only to Allah). Over time, new messages came to Muhammad while in a state of trance (this went on till the end of his life).³ These revelations were recited orally by Muhammad to his followers and written down by scribes, and later compiled into the Muslim sacred book known as the Qur’an (Koran), meaning— The Reading.

In 613, Muhammad began to publicly preach his new revelations, but his ministry was received with indifference and derision by most Meccans (they viewed Muhammad’s preaching against polytheism and idols as a subversive ploy to undermine their social order). At first, Muhammad converted only a few people in Mecca (mainly his relatives), but as his little company of Muslims began to grow, the Quraysh became alarmed. First they ridiculed and boycotted him and his clan, but later harassed and persecuted them and made several attempts on Muhammad’s life. In 622, he fled into the desert and hid, and then migrated to Medina (some 260 miles to the north), where he and his followers found refuge and made many converts who agreed to help him spread the message of Islam.

In AD 619, Muhammad’s first wife (Khadija) died and he then became a polygamist and married at least 14 or 15 wives over time. After much fighting, raiding of caravans, hostage-taking, kidnappings for ransom or slavery, mass murders, mass rapes of women captives, and looting of towns, camels, and sheep, Muhammad returned to Mecca, in A.D. 630, with an army of ten thousand followers and captured the city, unchallenged.

(It is important to note that at the beginning of Mohammad’s ministry, he hoped to be accepted by Jews and Christians as a prophet, and in his earlier revelations, he included positive statements about the people of the Book (the Bible). But later on, after it was clear that the Jews and Christians rejected his claims to prophethood, he then began to receive new revelations that were violently opposed to Jews and Christians (more on this later).

By AD 632, when Muhammad died, almost all the Arabian tribes were converted to Islam (via persuasion or by the sword) and remain as such today. One hundred year later, Islam had spread all the way to Spain and China (80% of all Christian churches were destroyed in the Middle East and North Africa by Islamic invaders).

How did it spread so fast? Through kindly missionaries spreading the simple message of Islam to all? No! The Koran tells us that unbelievers were to be struck by terror by chopping off their heads and all of their fingers if they do not convert to Islam (Sura 8:12-13 cf. 8:39, 67; 9:29, 73, 123; 33:60-61). The Koran also warned Muslims that if they did not engage in jihad, Allah would send them to Hell (Sura 9:81-82, 93-95). Those who do perform jihad receive wages of mercy and forgiveness from Allah, and paradise is promised if killed in battle (Sura 8:74; 9:86-88, 111).

[Note: Islam is not so much a religion that grows by one-on-one missionary efforts, but rather, the majority of growth is due to children being born into a Muslim family. Otherwise, Islam advances by overtaking a nation and imposing its strict laws upon all people, who are then given a choice to convert or flee for freedom, if not their lives. We see this happening all over the Middle East where non-Muslim minorities are severely persecuted and forced to live with less rights as Muslims.]

¹ Allah was only one of the pantheon of Meccan deities that originated from the ancient astral religions in Babylon, where they worshiped the sun, moon, and stars (which was also the practice of Baal or Satan worship in Canaan). The polytheistic Arabian heathens prayed toward Mecca and the Kabah because that was where their gods were stationed. The symbol of worship of the pagan moon god in Arabian culture, and elsewhere in the Middle East, was the crescent moon (and is the symbol for Islam which is placed on flags of Islamic nations and on top of mosques).

This means the Kabah is NOT the house of God. It was always the center of pagan idolatry (and still is today with its pagan god and rituals carried over to Islam). God gave King David (whom Muslims revere as a prophet of God) permission to build only ONE house of the Lord (Jehovah) on Earth, and that was the Jewish Temple (built by David’s son, Solomon), which housed the Holy of Holies, in Jerusalem, on Mt. Moriah, where Abraham proved his faith and love for God by offering to sacrifice his son, Isaac (read Genesis 22:1-2; 2 Samuel 7; 2 Chronicles 3:1; 5:1 cp. Sura 27:16). It was never a mosque. This means the Koran is a fraudulent book that claims the one true God was, and still is, linked to pagan idolatry via the Kabah (for more historical proof, Google Jerusalem Wikipedia. Also read the easy to understand book, The Islamic Invasion by Robert Morey, Harvest House).

² The Bible warns that Satan can appear as an angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14) to deceive people with false teachings (e.g., a false gospel). Anyone who receives or believes a false gospel is condemned. The apostle Paul warned: "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, LET HIM BE ACCURSED" (Galatians 1:8).

³ Initially, Muhammad was doubtful of the source of his revelations, fearing he was possessed by a Jinn (evil spirit), since he would be subject to ecstatic seizures (fall on the ground, writhe in agony, jerk around, foam at the mouth, eyes roll backward, and lose consciousness) and go into a trance-like state when he received his revelations (which is an indication of demon possession). The Bible prophets did not experience any of this. But Muhammad’s wife, Khadija, who was also a pagan false religionist, convinced him that his revelations were from God. Thus, Satan now had his man to work with and his wife
