    The Crossroad

T here comes a time in life where every individual will have to come to the end of themselves and get serious with God concerning their situation and circumstances. The bottom line, as my spiritual father stated so well, " If you’re going to serve God, then serve God. If you’re going to serve the devil, then serve the devil". Get real with yourself and make up your mind!

How awesome is that statement? It puts a person at the crossroads of life. It literally calls for one to make a quality decision. The problem rests on whether or not the individual has come to the end of themselves with the gimmicks, games and tricks they tend to play within their mind and body.

Let’s examine the biblical story of a loving father and his two sons:

Luke 15:12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me.

Many theologians speculate as to why the son left his house initially. What drove him to want to leave a place of refuge if he did not have to? What compelled him to ask for his share in something that he had no legal right to while his father yet lived? These answers can be speculated for ages however, what we do know is that it was not long before this young man came to the end of himself.

The son had reached the crossroads of his life. Some would speculate that he came to himself because all of his money was gone. I submit to you this question; do you know individuals with limited or no financial resources who still have not surrendered their life to Christ?

People of God, this is real. You should not have to reach a place of poverty in order to come to your end and pick up Christ’s beginning. While in the world it may seem as if you are living the "high life" on the outside, but on the inside, you may be empty and void. It is time to be children no more and move into spiritual maturity. People of God, its time to grow up.

Let us refocus on the story of the father and two sons. What most people really focus on is that the younger son went and asked for his portion of inheritance that was only due to him after his father’s death. What you do not see much emphasis placed on is the latter part of the verse. The father divided his wealth between both sons while he yet lived.

Luke 15:12…And he divided unto them his living.

Both sons received their portion. The elder brother in this story never objected to his father’s decision to award the early portions. He received his portion just as the younger brother, yet remained home with his father.

I pray the Lord will open the eyes of your understanding so that you may see spiritually a couple of key points from this passage. First, the younger brother ventured off to a distant land far away from his father and indulged in
