One Being

About this ebook
One Being is the story of the awakening of a cynical TV news journalist named Glen Darrow. He is self-centered, vain, and materialistic, and has no time or use for the spiritual or mystical side of life.
He embarks on a merry-go-round of binge drinking and one-night stands, when a chance encounter with Buddhist monks leads him to question his life. This leads him on a quest to India. There amidst the stark contrasts of poverty and spirituality he faces the ultimate realization- that we are all one being.

37340.pngPREFACE
37369.pngW elcome dear friend. This book has found you for a reason. Do you ever wonder what life is all about? Of course you do! Perhaps like me, you sometimes get the impression that your life is like a badly written piece of fiction or a ‘B’ grade movie.
Maybe you are like that little mouse trapped on the wheel going around and around. Well, it’s time to jump off the wheel! Don’t worry though you are not alone.
This book tells the amazing story of one man’s search for the ultimate truth in an insane world. Some of the greatest teachings from the world’s greatest masters have been condensed for you here in story format. The characters in this writing are a fictitious composite of real people. This book is written as fiction for a reason. As you will sooner or later discover, you and I and everybody else are actually also fictitious characters in our own story.
Contrary to popular belief, there really is another life outside of your television, your iphone and your computer screen. Go! It is yours to explore now! I wish you the highest blessings with all my heart, and above all success on your journey through life.
See you in the light.
37340.pngACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
37369.pngT o all the masters and teachers who have gone before, I make this small offering to you and place it in the hands of your children. You have laid the foundation stones upon which we all may walk upon our journey.
No word of thanks to you would ever be sufficient. Such a debt of gratitude can never be repaid. Let your teachings live again and again in fresh, new forms. Those teachings are eternal as you yourselves are.
There are some teachings in this book, which originated with the great masters themselves. The following masters by name or their teachings have been mentioned and referred to in this book:-
Lao Tsu
Ramana Maharshi
Gautama Buddha
Ramesh Balsekar
Jesus Christ
Sri Krishna
Sri Rama
Sri Sathya Sai Baba

The Fall
I haven’t always been searching for the light. As a matter of fact I was a total skeptic and a professional serial doubter. I found religion, spirituality and new age philosophy about as exciting and as useful as a wet sock. My job as a television journalist molded me into a suspicious, sarcastic, opinionated, arrogant and self centered individual. Hey! That was me on a good day! I doubted every thing and trusted no one. I thought that I knew who I was, and where I was going. In fact I was proud of it. I felt secure in this knowledge—this false knowledge.
I was determined to do whatever it took to get me where I wanted to be, to money, fame and prestige. Back then I didn’t know that I was on a treadmill.
I didn’t know, that I didn’t know, and that is the nature of ignorance. Some people are born ignorant, others choose to remain ignorant, and others die never knowing that they lived in ignorance. I suffered from profound ignorance at its worst. I was like one of those people who say that the earth is flat. I made quite a hobby of arguing with the ‘round earthers’ and shooting their opinions down in flames.
How much of our lives are wasted in stupidity? As the clock ticks by with each passing second, each moment is gone and will never return. Missed opportunities may never appear again. Like many people, I used to be like the little caged mouse on the wheel, running and running and running.
One Morning, about eight years ago, I abruptly fell off that wheel. Ah, but did I fall or was I pushed? I awoke to find myself alone in a hotel in Bangkok.
The previous evening, I had met an attractive lady named Mai Sue at the Oriental Bar. We had dinner together, entertaining conversation and lots of laughs. The wine was flowing like water. After stopping for a nightcap and some fun at a karaoke bar, I invited her back to my hotel. We had a pleasant physical interlude together and that’s all, or so I thought.
Awakening in the dawn’s early light, I had the hangover from hell. As I sat up on the side of the bed, I felt like a 20kg lead weight was crushing the top of my skull. My mouth was dry and my tongue felt like coarse sandpaper. I shakily reached for a bottle of water from the mini bar. As I drank the cool, life giving liquid, I caught sight of myself in the mirror. My brown eyes were bloodshot with big dark bags under them. I was then in my middle forties. I noticed that my dark brown hair was becoming increasingly grey. I was overweight and saggy
