    Martin E. Palagonia is a lifetime resident of Long Island, NY. He has been a published poet for 25 years, with most of his poetry based in the complexities of the Human Experience. He is married to his best friend and long-time companion Christine, without whose love and support he would never have had the courage to write this book. He is a former medic with the U.S. Navy/ Marine Corp., a former NYS EMT, and has had extensive experience in care giving to the elderly in his early years. His experiences in dealing with the deceased and the dying have greatly influenced his beliefs that we are more than temporary beings, but something far greater. He has had many teachers, Don Miguel Ruiz, Ram Dass, Neale Donald Walsch, Echarte Tolle and Dr. Wayne Dyer among them, and it is to these teachers of perspective that he owes his great thanks, for it was through their teachings that he found his own voice, and his own perspective. Lastly, he would like to thank his parents, Martin and Janet, for the lessons they taught him about life, all of which have served him well. Although he did not get the benefit of their wisdom as he grew older, due to their passing so young, they imparted some incredibly valuable knowledge with the time they had. It is to them, and his incredible wife Christine, and the Almighty that he dedicates this book.

      INTRODUCTION

      F irstly, allow me to introduce myself. I am a married fifty one year old, with three dogs, a mortgage, car payments and all the other indentifying qualities of the average person. I do not have a PHD in Philosophy, nor have I traveled to any exotic locations seeking out the meaning of life. In other words, I am just like you. If there is one difference between us presently, it would be that I KNOW I am a miracle, and further still, I KNOW you are too. If your still reading this, you have probably begun your own search for inner peace and understanding of just who you are and why we’re all here.

      Secondly, allow me to say that I have NO answers for you. The answers you seek are within YOU, and they are different for each of us. Only you know the truth of you. That is you, your soul and God. The purpose of this book is to present the possibilities, to help you understand that we are all very similar, yet not the same. Much like snowflakes, we each share the same appearance, yet we realize there is so much more to us. A huge part of the answers about who you are, and why your here, reside within your soul. This is why Conversing with your soul is so important.

      We all share the same human emotions, fear, doubt, joy, anger, love, regret. Yet, we all present those emotions differently, that is what makes us different. We are unique, special and if the truth be told….we are all miracles. Yet we have forgotten how to live as miracles.

      Most of us will wander through this life never having fully examined the inner beauty that resides within us all. Never having examined the possibilities that we often just write off as coincidence. This is because most of us are not really living, we are far too busy worrying about the things behind us or those things yet to come. We obsess over these menial happenings, either worrying that what is in our past will haunt us (and it will if you will allow it to be so), or creating scenarios of a future that may never come to pass. We resist the present, and in so doing never actually enjoy the moments we have been given.

      In this book are some short stories and messages written to help you contemplate the possibilities of this ride we call life. I named this book Conversing with the Soul for one very simple reason. I believe the answers which you seek are to be found within your soul. It is my belief that the soul is our direct conduit to God, it is how God speaks to us and how we can speak to God. When was the last time you tried to have a conversation with your soul?

      We are indeed complex beings, however, speaking to your soul is one of the least complex activities one can practice. All it requires of you is that you be present. That you quiet your mind long enough to listen, to ask questions and to listen for the answers. Put away your ego and truly listen, and accept what you are hearing as truth, remember that you are a miracle. Practice saying that to yourself over and over, soon you may believe it, and that is the key. When you finally accept that you ARE indeed a miracle, you will realize that ALL things are possible. God gave you three instruments to play the most beautiful music…. your mind, your body and not the least of all…..your soul. Remember, you take the journey but never alone. Your soul is always there, and it knows the truth of you, so converse with it!!

      PART ONE

      THE MESSAGES

      T he following are simply messages for you to ponder over. Should you see the truth of them, great!! Should you not, simply discard the thoughts you find less useful. We are each individuals, and as I mentioned in my introduction, it’s not me, it is you who must seek out the answers for yourself.

      This journey we call life is a different yet similar event for each of us, it’s not a test you can cheat on, or even one which you can grasp in its totality….it is far too big. All any of us can hope to do is learn enough about ourselves to know who we are deep down inside and try to improve as a conscious and hopefully enlightened being as we travel down our life’s path.

      I wish you well as you travel through this life and pray that this small bit of perspective, a gift from me to you, is well received and that you find something helpful. Always remember that you are a MIRACLE so try your best to live as one, and that your soul is a big part of the magic you possess, and that magic is limitless. This life is a wonderful journey, and nothing is beyond your reach.

      YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCE

      O K, so let’s begin. When I started writing these messages I realized that I would re-affirm over and over again just how important it is for each of us to have an ongoing dialogue with our souls. So many of us are lacking that vital connection to God, and no I’m not talking about religion here. I don’t care what faith you choose, if you do indeed believe in a higher power, than I will just surmise that you do believe you have a soul. That’s what this book is all about. YOUR soul.

      I believe that we are made of mind, body and spirit. The spirit is just another way of saying the soul. Of the three, this is probably the most neglected part of your life experience. That brings me to another question. One that is different for each of us, and one that only you can answer. So I ask you now, What do you want from your life experience? You see, if you haven’t answered that question, you’ve got a lot to think about.

      Some people know what they are after, and that is an important part of getting to where it is you want to be. For myself, I have never been one impressed by monetary pursuits, and so I have never really attained any wealth to speak of. Mind you, I have no complaints about it, I’m not judging anyone who pursues wealth or riches, it was just never my thing. I have always been content to live a life based in compassion for others and have never doubted it was the right path for ME. Many people who know me from my younger years would be surprised to know that I often considered devoting my life to God. The funny part about them being surprised, is that they used to call me preacher. So for me, finding a way to express my views on life was the task.

      Once again, you must ask yourself what pursuits are of importance to you. Your soul plays a great role in helping you sort out the things you wish to invest yourself in, and even more so, the things you do not wish to invest yourself in. Most of us have never really examined this question I have posed to you, and this question that you must now pose to yourself. Exactly WHO AM I and WHAT IS MY PURPOSE ?

      For sure it’s a big question, and a lot to examine. You will not answer this question in one day, one night. It’s not
