About this ebook
Buddy Hendricks
Buddy Hendricks was many things in his lifetime. He was a student, athlete, soldier, parent, teacher, lodge member, animal shelter director, poet and friend. But more importantly, Buddy was a lover of people, animals and nature. He enjoyed and celebrated the vibrations of life. In short, he recognized that while humanity is not perfect, it is nevertheless the state in which all of us find ourselves and he chose to write about it through the medium of poetry.

WHISPERS OF LOVE
GLYP.tifSometimes when the wind meets the sea and words whisper forth that last into the night,
and you are fortunate if you are with one that you care a great deal for…
Then your hearts can hear those whispers and perhaps nothing else will need to be said.
Perhaps for that time, together in such a way, that nothing else will matter…
Only the waves breaking on the shore in the distance under a crescent moon, barely
shimmering in quick glimpses, can interrupt the long stares into eyes of dark.
Then your hearts can beat wildly and you can reach for the other with trembling hands…And the stars pierce the darkness after the moon has set, some sailing across the sky,
never to be seen again, but bringing wishes along, for more hours to share upon the sand.
Then love is found churning, eddying, but in the sweetest, gentlest, way two can know…
Sometimes when the wind meets the sea and words whisper forth that last into the night,
and you are fortunate if you are with one that you care a great deal for…
Then your hearts can hear those whispers and perhaps nothing else will need to be said,
Perhaps upon that one night, with tears falling upon the shore, nothing else will matter… .
AND SO IT BEGAN
GLYP.tifI took her hand and we walked down the path across the field, into the waning hours.
Her hesitant look gave way to tiny smiles, but still, she questioned if the time was ours.
I answered that it was only for a time that we were even in the same space, for her to savor.
I knew not what I had done to be graced by her gaze, her smile, let alone her honest favor…
The afternoon began to cool, the slightest breeze brushed her hair, she blushed at my look.
The twilight was near; the night birds were preparing their songs, all out of a storybook.
She hadn’t spoken a word since entering the path, she held tightly to my hand, resisting trust.
Yet, we journeyed on, slowly, for there was no hurry, there was no need to stir the dust…
Soon we reached the park and we leaned against a silent row of tables alone in the coming shadows.
We stood there motionless, struck by the thought that one so satisfied, so happy, never borrows.
For the longest time we looked into the depth of our eyes, with only the sound of our breathing.
Quiet as we were, our hearts, our minds were silently screaming, our emotions wildly seething…
In the last light, her hands framed my face and she ever so gently kissed my lips, abandoning fear.
