In this publication I offer my opinion—I do not expect that you accept my opinion as your own. It is important to do what is best for you and your family. Having said that, you should know that I tell it as I have lived it!
I wrote this book to help parents of children with a disability, as well as those people who come into contact with them.
My aim is to:
• Help parents to remain positive and get the support they need after diagnosis;
• Give advice to medical practitioners when diagnosing a disability—enabling them to become better doctors, nurses, therapists and social workers;
• Encourage members of the public to be sensitive to disabilities, by choosing their words carefully so as not to offend, and by offering
