About this ebook

Seldom does one pick up a book where the author was not only led by God to write it, but was provided by Him with her pen name, the book title, the names of the editors, the picture for the front cover, and the publishing company by which He wanted the book published.

Such is the book that you are now holding in your hand.

Nora Kendall has presented some simple, yet faith-enhancing stories of how God moved in her life for the benefit of others. She tells of the moments in her life when God called her into action and then provided all that she needed to carry out His work.

Having never written a book before, Nora relied completely on God, not only for help in writing the manuscript, but to bring this book to publication. She makes it very clear that this book is not hers, but rather Gods book, written by her hands.

Behold I stand at the door and knock. (Rev 3:20 KJV)

If you feel moved by this book to respond to Gods calling in your life, then go and answer the door.

    Preface

Throughout my entire life, I have felt that I wanted to write a book. But for many years, I had no idea what I wanted to write about, nor did I have any idea if and when I would ever be writing a book. When I was nineteen, I found a coupon from Random House in a magazine that you could fill out, send in, and be enrolled in either a correspondence writing course or a correspondence art course.

After mailing away the coupon, a gentleman came to my home, and after some discussion, I signed up to take the writing course. I was thrilled to find out that my teacher was none other than Bennett Cerf, publisher and cofounder of Random House, whom I recognized from the TV show What’s My Line. I sent in my first monthly payment for the course and in return received a large box of beautifully bound books, all geared to making me an author, provided that I read them and followed the instructions.

My first writing assignment was to write a story pertaining to the Norman Rockwell painting The Runaway. This painting depicts a small boy seated next to a police officer at a lunch counter, and on the floor is a stick tied to a bundle of clothing, obviously belonging to the little boy who is running away from home. I do not remember anything about the story that I wrote for my assignment, nor did I keep the corrected paper when Bennett Cerf returned it to me, but what I do remember is that I was given a C+ for my effort. Along with my results, I was given another picture about which I was to write another story. However, I struggled with this assignment, lost interest, decided I had had enough of training to be a writer, and never wrote another word! I decided to give up on the idea that writing was what I wanted to do and paid my account off in full to Random House. Years later, I donated all those beautiful books to our local library in the hopes that someone else would benefit from them.

    Fast-forward to 2012.

I kept thinking that some people might be moved to help their fellow man if they knew how I was used by God to benefit the lives of others. It did, however, occur to me that telling my experiences might not be appropriate.

In His sermon on the Mount, Jesus said Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in Heaven. (Matthew 6:1 NKJV) Nevertheless, this feeling about sharing my story would not leave. I had, in the last couple of years, been keeping notes about the charity work in which I was involved. Every now and then, I would seek out a friend who was active in mission work and tell her how God had put it on my heart to help someone and was then led by Him to meet the need.

In the October, 2011, edition of his monthly magazine, In Touch, Dr. Charles Stanley wrote about God’s involvement in our lives, His blessings and how we should not forget all that He has done for us. He suggested that we should have some way of remembering these things, perhaps even to keeping a written record. This advice from Dr. Stanley kept playing on my mind until one day I decided that what he had written was what God wanted me to do; that it applied to me.

I wondered what I was going to do with all my stories. I did not know if
