    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my Naani Maa Late Smt.Lakhi Bai Jothwani an epitome of compassion and love who gave me my first brush with divinity.

Also to my mother Late Smt. Nirmala Thakurdass Pamnani whose quest for knowledge was unquenchable and who was game to learning till her ripe old age. It is from her that I inherited my thirst for knowledge too.

And my father Late Sri Thakurdass S.Pamnani who was a saintly, silent non-interfering person whose very presence was a pillar of uncompromising strength.

I would be failing in my duty if I were not to thank my loving wife Mrs.Heeru (Madhu after marriage) for bearing with me in my Late night’s and sometimes early morning’s bouts of inspirational writing which would interrupt her blissful sleep.

And without doubt my two daughters Mrs. Reshma Ram Kumar a budding writer and illustrater hiding her talents under a bushel and Mrs.Nisha Simran Sitlani a budding poet who also has kept her talents hidden.

My thanks also go out to my two sons-in-law Sri Amit Sitlani and Sri Ramkumar who have been my chief motivators in bringing this collection of poems out of the closet.

I do sincerely hope that this collection will act as an inspiration to all those writers who have penned down their experiences in life in their private diaries to bring them out in bright sun-shine for display and appreciation. The world deserves to know all their multiple and varied perspectives.

A Mother Teresa in my Home

    I’ve lived as a guest

    with relatives rich and poor

    I’ve lived under a roof

    sometimes thatched

    and sometimes multi storeyed RCC.

    The wind high and dry

    in one

A Cool blast on my face

    in another

by an A/C on full blast

    Yes, I’ve lived in places

    high and low

    But there’s no place

    to beat the one

    where my grandma lives

    Her smile—I simply love

    toothless without any sharp

    biting teeth:

    Her gait—I simply adore

    Small stepped, tentative,

    like a small cuddly child

    Her humility

    punctures my egoism;

    Her gullibility

makes me look like a fool.

    Her all-pervading love

    makes me forget

    the ‘I’ in me

    In her I have discovered

    a true, all encompassing love

    the way I imagine

    ‘God’ to be

    Shraddhanjali

A Tribute to a Loving Father

    Every once in a while

    it appears that

    time is standing still

    The ears yearn

    for your slow, measured voice

    The silence in the house

    awaits your soft home coming

    footsteps.

    The mind refuses
