I want to take the time to acknowledge the people who have been truly supportive of me and my ventures. Deion Terrell Jones, son, I could not have asked for a better son. You are the joy of my life, and it has been an absolute blessing to be your mother. I have tried my best to be the best example for you. You truly inspire me to be a better person in life. You are wise beyond your years, and I cannot wait to see what God has in store for you. I am proud of the young man you are becoming, and I pray that you will realize all of your hopes and dreams, as you remember to keep God as the head of your life.
To my parents, Carlos and Stephanie Jones, words cannot express my level of gratitude for all that you continue to do to support me in all that I do. I know that I presented many challenges with my strong-willed personality growing up, but you hung in there with me through it all. The two of you together possess the perfect balance that has been essential in molding me into the woman I am today.
To my brother and sister-in-law, Carlos II and Sparkle Jones, you are a dynamite couple. I am thankful for the relationship I have with the two of you. Carlos, I am proud of the man you have become, and I am glad God has blessed you with Sparkle, a truly devoted wife who compliments your roles as pastor, brother, father, and son, counselor, and the many other roles that you have in your life. Summer Lynn, auntie loves you baby!
To my sister, Carla Jones, you are one of a kind, dear. I am glad to see you living in your purpose. I am always grateful for your love and support in all that I do. You are such a loving person, and I know that only greater things are in store for you. Chris, welcome to the family!
To Danielle Johnson Holmes, you are truly a great sister-friend. You have been there for me through the thick and thin, and I am glad to have you in my corner.
I am truly grateful for my church family, The Way Interdenominational Church. You are a great support system. I thank each of you for your continued prayers as I took on this project.
To my grandparents, Papa Ernest and Mama Lue, and Mama Dee, (I miss you Papa John), I love each of you dearly, and I thank you for all of your continued support. Thank you to all my uncles and aunts: Uncle Emmit and Aunt Deloris, Uncle Trennis and Aunt Grova, Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jacob, Uncle Johnny and Aunt Kelli, Uncle Renaldo, Aunt Michelle, (Uncle Ralph, I miss you dearly), Uncle Ernest and Aunt Dana, and all of my cousins, I thank each of you for supporting me through the years.
You have all played an integral part in my life, and I love each one of you dearly for loving me to greatness.
Introduction
L ife is full of many experiences, including ones that are pleasant and others that are seemingly unbearable. It is easy to be joyful when everything is going well in life, but when things get tough, how do you handle life? I used to get overwhelmed when adversity presented itself, and I would constantly ask God why I was going through so many unnecessary trials, especially when I purposely tried to live for God. In the midst of my uncertainty, I would focus on the people around me, and would constantly get annoyed by others’ actions. I wanted to control how people interacted with me. Was that too much to ask for? Apparently, I was going about everything completely the wrong way.
I remember vividly when my dad asked me one simple question, Tam, why do you think you need to be the person who tells everyone how to act?

I remember finding myself in one of the most challenging situations, you know when you do all that you can, and your hard work is not being recognized for what it is. It was at that moment, that I changed my thought process. Instead of going to my faithful, Why me, Lord,
I purposely looked for the purpose in that encounter. I decided to allow my spirit to be receptive to the message God was sending me, in the midst of adversity.
When I learned to look for insight in each situation, I no longer had to stress over things that
