About this ebook

What would Jesus do if He visited your college campus? Walk around? Read books and drink coffee? Or would He preach the Gospel? As Christians, we are called to bring the truth of God and everything the Lord has taught us to the people around us. At times, this may be difficult because of our lack of biblical teaching on evangelism. This book is designed to show people how simple it is to fulfill the Great Commission even in their daily lives. As an individual is led by the Holy Spirit, power and deliverance are brought forth in mighty ways and the fire of God is displayed. Evangelism does not have to be a burdensome act, rather an enjoyable adventure with Jesus.

Whether you are a new believer or a world-renowned evangelist, the teachings in this book are simple, yet profound. Everything from tracts to open-air preaching is discussed while referencing the scriptures. A successful soldier has proven techniques for battle, and so should we if we are to be successful evangelists. Not only for college students, this book can be used by anyone that so desires to spread the Good News of Gods salvation. By the grace of God, may we all listen and obey the words of the apostle Paul and do the work of an evangelist.

    Personal Testimony

Allow me to begin this book with a personal testimony of my conversion to Christ. I pray my story will encourage you and allow you to see what I have seen while also giving my book credibility. It is very important to know about the author of any book you read, and a great way to get to know him or her (if he or she is Christian) is by understanding their journey to God. My own journey has been rather unique, as all of ours should be, so listen and see what Christ has done…

My name is William Crockett, but many of my friends and family call me Scooby. I was born in Winter Park, Florida and grew up in a semi-religious home. As a baby, I was christened in a Methodist church, but our family typically attended church only on Easter and Christmas Eve. As a young child, my parents told me to pray, so I prayed to God and Jesus, but I did not fully understand what I was doing. However, I did understand that God was listening and was answering my prayers.

As I got older, I began to learn about the world and all that was around me. I doubted God sometimes, but I still prayed to him. I was heavily involved in sports, strived for the best grades, and sought to get others to like me. So I did whatever I thought was necessary to achieve those goals. Ultimately, however, my desire for earthly satisfaction led me down the wrong path.

I remained innocent (in a sense) until my first years at Lake Mary High School, where I began to experiment with marijuana …and alcohol. Whatever purity I possessed up to this point in my life was soon lost in the blackness of sin. I became heavily obsessed with parties and ungodly acts, and became infatuated with pornography. Though I grew in popularity with my peers, it proved to lead me deeper into darkness. I even got arrested for having a house party with underage drinking right after I received my high school diploma.

My college career began in 2008 at the University of Central Florida, and I eased into the transition with plenty of confidence to back up my self-satisfied lifestyle. I felt that I could do whatever I wanted, so I did just that. I went where I wanted, smoked what I wanted, watched what I wanted, and said whatever devilish thing sprang up in my heart. Still, my desire for fleshly pleasure was not gratified; I always craved more. Although those who knew me thought I was fine, in reality, I was in need of help.

At the age of 18, my enlightenment time began, and I started to question the world around me, as well as life itself. I watched a two-hour video on the Big Bang, and my mind saw the universe in a new way. I questioned evolution and tried to put the pieces together. I knew someone was leading me, and the only explanation I had was God. I continued to drink, have sex, and smoke weed, but I also prayed. Even though my heart was in conflict and my soul was at war, God was guiding me toward his Son with patience and love.

During my second semester at UCF, I enrolled in a philosophy class that asked us to answer six questions about life, including Who are you? What is good and bad? Are you a good person? and What is reality? My focus was on Are you a good person?

During this time, I thought intensely about the meaning of good vs. evil. I wrestled for days with this pivotal duality until I was overwhelmed by an answer with which I simply could not argue. The Spirit of God filled my room, and I began to weep. For the first time I realized the true separation of good and evil, and the only name I could think about during this emotional state was Jesus. Guilt flushed my being as I told the Lord how sorry I was for my sins. I can’t explain my experience fully; all I know is that love filled my room, and even though my sins were many, God’s arms were around me, and I experienced his love.

I would be a liar if I said I stopped sinning after this pivotal moment in my life, but I can say sinning became more difficult for me. I knew the truth now, because God had revealed himself to me, but it took time for my actions to align with his will. After that wonderful night of revelation in my room, conviction began to take hold, and now God was my personal counselor. The Lord was patient with me through this time as I grew to love him more, for Jesus Christ is a protector and a lover, and he knows our pain (Hebrews 4:15).

It has been close to three years since that experience, and my journey with God has been amazing. God reveals more and more each day, and my knowledge of him has only increased. I have graduated from the University of Central Florida, and now I dedicate my time to evangelism whenever I can. I’ve travelled to the Dominican Republic on two mission trips, and I’ve led teams to the areas outside of bars and clubs, where we evangelize and preach the gospel. We’ve even gone to places like downtown Orlando during the nighttime party hours.

Never would I have imagined that God would use me to preach the gospel to thousands of lost souls or give me the privilege of praying with hundreds of them personally. God will use you; you just need to trust in him, get equipped, and learn from those who have ventured into the dark trenches of sin and despair so you can share the love of Jesus Christ effectively and efficiently.

    Personal Evangelism

I have a big mouth, and when I experience something novel, I tell people about it. Whether it’s a party, a drug, or something spiritual, I cannot stay silent. Naturally, after my experience with God in my room, I began to tell everyone. My friends listened, and some thought I was crazy, but I didn’t stop. At parties, I would talk about God even while participating in the frivolity. I would do shots to Jesus with my friends and pray before I smoked weed with everyone else in the circle. During that time, I was still in sin, but that didn’t stop me from evangelizing. The closer I grew to Christ, the more I wanted to tell the world about him.

Though I was immature in my faith, as I studied God’s Word, I began to understand what a follower of Jesus looks like. As I read through the gospels and the letters of Paul, my sinful habits were brought further into light, and the desire to please my Lord took hold. Joining a Christian college group and seeing believers my own age live their lives for Jesus helped further this understanding of holy living and aided my determination to be like Christ.

As I grasped the absolute necessity of being made perfect in his image, my life
