      INTRODUCTION

      I had the privilege to work with a man called to send God’s power and anointing to his generation. He had remarkable testimonies pertaining to the presence and power of God among men. The years with him were very rich and fruitful because I worked with my whole heart and gave my very best to the glory of God, though I made mistakes also.

      When I encountered this man of God, I noticed a genuine heart, zeal and commitment to God and God’s anointing upon his life. Three years earlier, I had a dream whereby I saw a handsome young man resting in the middle of a huge maize farm. You could not see one end from another. When I approached him, I asked him why he was resting in the middle of the farm that was ready for harvest. He then told me he was waiting for someone to help him harvest the maize. Later a colleague of mine, introduced me to a handsome young man, and lo and behold, it was the same man in my dream. I then committed myself to what God had called him to do.

      I researched and found that the men of God who excelled, were those who had sincere, dedicated and unselfish helpers who stood with them. I came to the conclusion that unless somebody emptied himself in support of this man’s ministry, he would not achieve his dreams and beyond with ease. I took it upon myself, in a covenant with God, to do just that in order for that unique anointing, calling and ministry to survive and make an impact on the world. My philosophy was like that of John the Baptist, I must decrease for him to increase (John 3: 30).

      This I did without any coercion, promises or expectation of reward. My motive was to be there - for God. It was an assignment I undertook by myself and I performed it with all that was within me. I prayed and asked God to empty me of anything He had placed in me and add it to this man, so that I could fully and effectively support him. Yes! I did that. I constantly prayed for him, his family, the ministry, etc. It was like my very source of life. I was committed to the success of the ministry.

      This, from my learning from the Holy Spirit, is still NOT what the ministry of intercession is. I did intercede for the ministry, by raising a powerful prayer ministry in support of it, but it still cannot be termed as the ministry of intercession.

      What many deem as the ministry of intercession is actually a prayer ministry, and some people who call themselves intercessors are actually prayer warriors.

      Who then is an intercessor, and what is the ministry of intercession?

      In this book, I will try to disseminate what the Holy Spirit is teaching me about intercession and I hope someone interested in that ministry will catch on.

      Though not an authority in this area, I hope and pray I will be able to allow the Holy Spirit to communicate to you through this book.

      May the Lord, who has inspired you to read this book, minister to you by His Spirit and receive that grace to perform in Jesus’ name.

      TYPES OF INTERCESSION

      And I sought for a man among them that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none (Ezekiel 22:30).

      The thought that Almighty God will always look for a man (a created being) to negotiate with Him concerning His plans seem too good to be believed at times, but all through scripture, we see that happening.

      Moses diffused God’s anger, Abraham moved God through negotiations, King Hezekiah was able to change God’s plan for his life and Jacob prevailed to have his name changed. There is much that has not happened in our world because men have not sought to prevail before God, with God.

      Intercession goes beyond earnest praying; it takes you to where others don’t go and into unexpected situations at times, but you must be ready to go, even if you will lose your interests.

      Intercession is defined in the dictionary as the act of interceding (prayer, petition, or entreaty in favor of another).

      Biblically, intercession has to do with a positional status before God for or on behalf of a person, people or place. It has three main levels: the Adjudicatory, Observatory and Condescending positions.

      ADJUDICATORY

      This is when the Intercessor plays the role of a judge between God and man, with the sole aim of changing God’s mind concerning a person, a people or a place with respect to the return to an original plan or promise by God, irrespective of the failure of the other.

      A clear example is seen when the Israelites, through Aaron, made the golden calf and worshiped it in the absence of Moses and God wanted to wipe them out:

      And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, tomorrow is a feast to the LORD. And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have
