Reviews for Walking in Freedom!
1 rating1 review
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A book that aims to guide anyone who reads it and help them re-affirm their faith or just strengthen it further, Walking in Freedom! A Thirty-day Devotional Journey for Women by Rhovonda L. Brown is a precious read that should be included in everyone’s bookshelves.Structured specifically for women to have a takeaway at every chapter, the book is almost like a sentient guide that will help you get through the day for the first thirty days and hopefully beyond that. From common hurdles that everyone feels from time to time such as fear that things in your life are changing rapidly without your control; to the constant demands of everyday life. But apart from the book being reflective, what I liked about it are the questions in every chapter to make you reflect as well. It makes it more interactive and makes it also a good book to share with friends and read together. This is why I highly recommend this book not only for private reading but as gift to friends to bond over. Not only will this strengthen your faith, but it will also strengthen your friendships as well.

Acknowledgments
To my husband Jeffrey, God has blessed us with twenty-one wonderful years of marriage. God made us one. You’re my best friend, soul mate, and spiritual covering. You make me smile. Thank you for being the father of my children. Words aren’t enough to express my gratitude and love for you. For all you do and say, all of it keeps me going. Thank you for believing in me, pushing me when I want to quit, and praying over me when I’m weak from life’s journey. I love you with all my heart, and I’m looking forward to spending many, many years of marital bliss.
Ah. My babies, Kourtney and Kaleb, daughter and son, my psalmist and musician, Mommy loves both of you greatly and deeply. You are a part of me. You’re a joy to have, and I’m truly blessed to be your mother. You are my beautiful children (inside and out), uniquely designed by God and created for His purpose. I’m so very proud of both of you. God is grooming you and using you both to be His vessels for His glory. Thank you for encouraging Mommy to keep pursuing after all that God has for me.
Jeff, Kourtney, and Kaleb, you remind me each day that I am blessed beyond measures. I thank God for you, and I love you greatly.
To my brother, Kelvin Harrell, we are cut from the same cloth, sharing and carrying the love of our mother and brother. Thank you, my brother, for being in my corner. You are there whenever I need you. I love you, my brother.
To my dad, Lee Otis Harrell, thank you for our new relationship. We have grown closer over the years. Thank you for being in my life and loving me. Daddy, I’m grateful to God for you and our new father-daughter relationship. May our relationship grow stronger each day. I love you, Daddy.
To my family, all of you have been so supportive. I’m truly blessed to be surrounded by strong people of faith who love me and God. You have inspired me to dream big and to trust God with those dreams. You’ve encouraged me to keep doing what God has called me to do. I’m thankful for your love, and I am forever grateful.
To my spiritual parents, Dr. Glenn and Pastor Jeanie, thank you. You brought to my attention that assignment God had given me and encouraged me to stir up the gifts and birth it out. And I did. I love you.
Finally, to my God, You never cease to amaze me. I shall always praise and give thanks to my supernatural support. You are my magnificent God. Oh, heavenly Father, I wouldn’t exist had You not spared my life. You breathed life into me and made me a living soul. I am nothing without You, and I can’t do anything without You. I am what I am because of You. Thank You for ordaining my life. Before I was conceived in my mother’s womb, You knew me. Wow! Thank You for orchestrating my life from start to finish. You planned my journey and the path in which I must go, causing all things, everything that has happened in my life, the good, the bad, and the ugly, to be a part of Your glorious plan. Hallelujah. I’m Your masterpiece. Father, I thank You for Your Holy Spirit that always comforts me and reminds me about Your precious promises that can be found in Your Holy Word. Father, I thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, who is my Savior. Jesus, what a wonder You are. You have always been and will always be my faithful friend. You love me drastically without any restrictions. Your love is amazing. I love You for loving me just the way I am and bringing out the best in me.
Preface
About three years ago during one of my early morning quiet times, the Holy Spirit urged me to send out a devotional email encouraging the women on my contact list. This was actually the beginning of something beautifully designed and preordained by the Creator. Through me, God created Martha & Mary Ministries, Walking in Freedom!, a women’s devotional ministry. My nontraditional devotionals are sent out during the week to encourage women to live a life that’s free in Christ, reminding them to keep their eyes on God. In each devotional, I try to be obedient to the Holy Spirit. I’m also transparent and vulnerable in my writings so God’s Spirit can be a great encourager and an amazing comforter for those who read them. At times, being transparent and vulnerable can be extremely difficult for me, but I am humbly grateful that God believes in me and has chosen me to be His vessel to encourage His daughters.
Even now, God has blessed me with an opportunity to encourage more women and to share my devotionals in a different capacity. Under His directions, I’ve selected thirty of my original Martha & Mary Ministries, Walking in Freedom devotionals and then revised and modified them specifically to create a devotional book and study guide. The purpose of the book is to encourage you to deepen your intimacy with God. Walking in Freedom! A Thirty-Day Devotional Journey for Women will remind you of the importance of trusting God and keeping Him at the center of everything. It’ll motivate and empower you to have an effective prayer life to where you’ll look forward to your quiet time with the Lord, a period where you’ll want to study and grow in His Word. In addition, this wonderful study tool can be used for your women’s Bible study and small groups. Simply put, this devotional book is for you who have a desire to know God more and desire to grow in His Word and your spiritual walk. If you are searching for your identity and your purpose in life, this book is for you.
I challenge you to take this thirty-day journey. Devote thirty days of intimacy with God. Your journey will have obstacles and distractions, but keep your thoughts on God. He will keep you and give you perfect peace (Isa. 26:3). Be determined, and He’ll refresh and empower you. Prayerfully, by the power of the Holy Spirit, your thirty-day devotional journey will jump-start a newfound love and adoration for God in you, bonding your relationship with Him and your walk with Christ.
The Journey
Walking in freedom is a journey, a daily walk of triumph and struggles with some highs and lows. No rituals you can perform will cause you not to have difficulties in this life’s journey. Because this world is decaying, there will be tribulations and setbacks. For me, I triumph over my struggles some days while I fall victim to them other times. Many times, I need God’s comfort, and He faithfully encourages me. He builds me up and reminds me of His precious Word. Through His Word, I find peace and relief in His presence. God energizes me to keep walking in freedom and daily trusting in Him. Without a doubt, I know He uses my downtimes, my mess-ups, and my not-so-good days to encourage others.
