The Princess of Waves
There was a beautiful queen who was slender, with a long neck and brown hair falling on her back in silken tenuity. When she walks with an upright stature she is regarded with respect and esteem. Although pregnant, she was very active and did everything quickly and very skillfully. Everywhere she goes she sprays liveliness and love of work unlike her husband, the sluggish King Krishan, who does not like work and does not care about his people’s welfare.
King Krishan was short and bald, with a big belly that quivered whenever he was nervous or whenever he saw food. Dhafra, the cook, always prepared him the most delicious dishes. She woke up early every morning, picked strawberries and mulberries, prepared tea at ease, made cake and baked bread. When the smell of cake and bread sneaks into the king’s room, it tickles his nostrils and drags him to the table. So, he eats and eats until he is full, then he lies in the courtyard on a comfortable sofa and starts greeting the citizens and listening to their complaints and pleads. He listens to them and mutters some words in slumber. Every day, by that time queen Loloa had already finished exercising, showering, dressing up and putting on perfume to come down to the crowded court. The king and his guard Naassan are usually still in deep slumber. Queen Loloa kicks his bed with her high-heeled shoe, takes off her luxurious coat and tosses it into the arms of her servant Lilian, and then she sits on the throne to attend to her people’s affairs and serve them. When the session is over, she does not yield to tiredness but goes out to all parts of the kingdom to inspect the roads, the shops and the fields.
Queen Loloa did not allow oppression, the raise of prices, or the selling of rotten goods, and used to punish anyone who broke the law. She once discovered that the candy seller raised the prices and overcharged the children. So, she gave her servant Lilian a handful of pistachios to eat then throw the shells in his face. Lilian did this until he fell on the ground. Then the children went into the shop and ate the candy with big smiles on their face. Another time she caught someone selling dirty food, so she made sure the store was closed and perfectly sealed. Queen Loloa made everybody respect the law.
Yet, the queen wanted to spread happiness among her people. She
