      This book is dedicated to my late paternal granny who brought me up herself. She was my roommate for many years until I left Penang to study in Singapore, where I stayed for 12 years before calling it quits and coming back to start a new adventure in Malaysia.

      Granny was the one who instilled hard work and discipline in me since young. She would always say, ‘Books are your treasures." So, I studied hard in school, sometimes getting prizes for certain subjects.

      My parents had also invested a lot of time and money in my early education, sending me for many rounds of tuition to ensure a brighter future for me and my siblings. Without their sacrifices, I won’t be where I am today, living the lifestyle that I so desire with a dream job where I set my own hours and chart my own path.

      In this day and age, more people are turning to the internet for life’s solution. From searching for information, online work or even looking for some companionship, the internet has created wonders for many people. It connects everyone online and makes the world smaller than before.

      With the eurozone sovereign debt debacle, and millions jobless, the internet is the answer to earn an income from the comfort of one’s home. Many people have turned to the computer and internet to find work in order to pay the monthly bills and to put food on the table.

      Chapter 1: My Story – How I Got Started

      Some people come in your life as blessings. Some people come in your life as lessons.

      It was quite stressful working in an office with colleagues covering up the mistakes for each other and this is called working as a team! It was more like who could cover the biggest mistake.

      So, in the end, I figured out that to be happy, it is better to work by myself at home offering computer services, also known as virtual assistance.

      So, this is how I got started – working alone at home and being my own boss!

      No more waiting in traffic jams just to commute to work daily, no more dressing up or putting on make-up and best of all, no more office politics! Who says you cannot have your cake and eat it too?

      I save up quite a substantial amount on gasoline and buying office attire. More importantly, I save time and love what I am currently doing. It is no longer work, but rather a hobby where I can earn and contribute financially to my family.

      However, there is a caveat.

      Bear in mind that working at home using the computer is not for pure beginners. Otherwise, many would have turned to this solution and worked at home earning a stable income, month after month. It is assumed that you already have some basic knowledge in using computer applications like Microsoft Word and Excel.

      Another way is you can pick up skills by buying a book to learn the basic skills of using Microsoft Office applications.

      Therefore, this book will highlight the ways that I use to successfully work from home since 2004. Now I earn income in the 5 figures and sometimes 6 figures per year by working at home. Since then, I have never looked back. This is not to boast but if I can do it, so can you.

      In fact, there is nothing to boast, because I have had my share of failures in life as well as successes. There was a time when I had only 2 digits left in my bank account, so broke and living from pay cheque to pay cheque and working from 9:00am to 6:00pm or even later every weekday. Sometimes, I also worked on weekends.

      Here is a nugget of wisdom: Do not over work! All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy or Jill a dull girl!

      Researchers have found that those who work 10 hours or more each day, were twice as likely to experience depression than those who stick to eight-hour workdays. There is a reason for the trend on work-life balance.

      This study was based on 2,000 white-collar workers, none of whom had any history of depression.

      An earlier survey by researchers found that overtime work was linked to more than a fifty percent rise in coronary heart disease.

      Another study by FIOH (Finnish Institute of Occupational Health), involving measurements on the length of DNA sections – called telomeres – discovered the link between occupational stress and aging. It found that telomeres were shorter in people with higher job stress.

      Telomeres have been compared with the tips of shoelaces – since they prevent the ends of chromosomes from fraying, resulting in the body’s genetic information from going haywire.

      Each time a cell divides, the telomeres get shorter and when they get too short, the cell can no longer divide and becomes inactive or dies. This process is associated with aging, cancer and a higher risk of death.
