About this ebook

A child is walking in the woods with her father and brother and spots a row of white bluebells. In the distance, at the end of the row of white bluebells, is a dwarf, all three can see him and know he is talking, but only Suzi (the daughter) can understand him.

In the true fashion of a fairy story, the row is not straight but wanders about all over the place; Suzi tries to leave the row and take the obvious shortcut, but they start to turn back into ordinary bluebells and the dwarf gets very agitated and starts to shout in an annoyed ‘dwarfish’ language. He gets agitated because he had turned the bluebells white in order to get Suzi to see them and come to his world, The Kingdom.

    Characters

Suzi – a child in this world but a magician in The Kingdom, who does not know what powers she has and even when they become apparent, does not know how to use them, so frequently gets it all wrong. She will eventually learn how to use these powers before she comes back to our world. She spends a long time looking for the tree again, making Mum and Dad keep going to Bluebell Woods for caravan weekends.

One day, many years later, when she is a mother herself and on a walk with her son and dad, who is of course now a grandad, she finds some more white bluebells!!!!! She follows them to a tree and finds a door, but when she goes through it, she finds herself back in The Kingdom; all the bright colours have gone and the people are all two dimensional, like black and white photographs.

Dad – a dad who just happens to be taking his child for a walk when all this happens and who is always looking to one side to try and work out what is happening! His mobile phone has stopped working as well!

Daniel – Suzi’s brother, who is not much involved originally and does not really want to be there but who later suddenly becomes very important when he is a Great Lord.

The King – who is a very nice man, a bit like a grandad, who is being hurt by his queen, a much younger and evil woman.

    Dwarf – the King’s Chancellor – Bryn.

The Wicked Queen – the King’s wife, a very wicked lady.

The Black Knight (Lord Morgim) – the Queen’s evil champion

    The Court Jester

    The Court Magician – Jaoby

The Dwarves – apart from Bryn, the dwarf who we meet first. We are never sure which ones we can trust!

Various bands of villains in the shape of gremlins, dragons of varying sizes (some of whom can be good), some toys who have minds of their own that have been lost or thrown away by their real-world children. Sometimes they just want to be played with again and whilst you are, originally, never sure what they are going to do, (like a toy fireman who sets light to things and a toy policeman who steals sweets), what they do is not really wrong, just a misguided wish to be noticed!

The Children (who used to be ‘real children’) but were stolen by the Queen.

    The Discovery

Bryn, the dwarf, was getting very annoyed. In the distance, he could see Lady Suzi and Lord Daniel walking with somebody who could well be their dad, but no matter how loud he shouted or waved his arms, they just took no notice at all. I might just as well be invisible, Bryn muttered to himself. Suddenly, he realised that in this world, he probably was! I need to do something, he mumbled. I know, how about I paint some of these bluebells white, in a line leading to me?

At which, he jumped from his tree stump, ran to where Lady Suzi was, got out his paintbrush and started to paint a line of bluebells white. He was walking backwards while he did it, so the line was not straight.

Daddy, why are those bluebells not blue? shouted Suzi.

Where? said Dad, walking along and thinking about nothing at all really other than keeping Suzi and her brother occupied, while Mum got tea ready in the caravan.

Over there, look, they are white and they go in a wiggly line all the way to that tree over there.

Suzi tried to leave the row and take the obvious short cut, but they started to turn back into ordinary bluebells and the dwarf got very agitated and started to shout in an annoyed ‘dwarfish’ language. He got agitated because he had turned the bluebells white in order to get Suzi to see them and come to his world, The Kingdom.

As they started turning back to blue, the dwarf became transparent. Suzi started to be unable to see him again and if this happened, Suzi would never be able to go and save The Kingdom, which the dwarf knew she could do. The dwarf has a very limited amount of magic here, so he cannot easily turn the bluebells white again.

Suzi ran off along the row of white bluebells and stopped by the tree. "Look, there is a door here
