Chapter One
The sound of shattered glass breaking on the curb, broke the nearly silent night, as Sal Price peeked through his mini blinds from his house. The neighbors across the street were really getting into it with each other, presenting a cacophony of noise.
Sweat began to bead along the wrinkled brow of the very hairy, stout-gentlemen named Sal. He rubbed his tired eyes and continued to watch out across the street, and into the neighboring house that was 50 yards away from his front window.
You crazy bastard, I don’t care what you think!
A woman’s voice could be heard screaming out loud.
You had better be more careful next time, I won’t tolerate your attitude much longer
You and your damn twin Brother had better figure it out then!
A white van left the driveway, peeling tires, and then the neighborhood was back to a very tranquil, cool, humid soaked night.
Mae, a curvy, short woman, made her way outside to check the mailbox. She strolled back across the front lawn with her hips swaying, and the front door shut quickly behind her.
Chapter Two
In a dimly lit alley, on a foggy street, three men talked and passionately cussed. Stefano and Luca Capo stood very close to the third man, Frank.
You had gotta be kidding, you- yolk-head.
We need a steady supply of heroin and tramadol to keep our market of buyers happy.
This waiting weeks at a time, just won’t do.
No, no, can’t have that.
Luca interjected.
Stefano continued. Frank, can we count on you- bro?
Frank, a tall, thin, very sharply dressed man hesitated and then spoke. I’ll get you both the goods, OK- we done here now?
We are finished, and you will be done, well done, if you fail to produce, you got me Frank?
Frank took a nervous step backwards, cleared his throat and looked at Luca. You got it Stefano, no sweat.
I am fucking Luca, you stupid.
Frank laughed out loud, I get you and your brother mixed up is all, you bastards are identical twins, aren’t you?
Two more days Frank, two more days.
Stefano stated as he walked towards the white van, with a large magnetic logo on each side- THE CAPO ALLIED APPLIANCE SERVICES.
The Capo twins had earlier been in the business of appliance repair for all but two months, when they both realized that they could be selling drugs using their small shop as a front.
Selling people solutions to their crappy, troubled, lives. We should be saints one day, eh Stefano?
Luca said as he climbed inside the van.
The fog covered street was becoming even more soaked in with grayish, off-white mist. A cool breeze kicked up from Lake Superior.
Chapter Three
Meanwhile, Mae Capo was back at home, up high on the hillside of houses, where the neighborhood overlooked the unsalted lake.
Duluth, Minnesota is a shipping town, a tourist trap, and above all a beautiful place to be, just not the best place for some people, come winter time. Below freezing temperatures, gale force winds, and a winter that lasts 7 months, if one is lucky.
Everything about Duluth screamed, perfect environment to sell dope.
The Capo’s knew this all too well. And so did many other criminals from Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis.
Mae sat inside the small garage petting her dog, a white and tan mutt. She loved that dog more than she did her husband Stefano. Way more.
It all started somewhere around the time that Luca slept with Mae one night as a goof, a joke that Stefano was in on. From then on out, Mae just slowly began to disdain her husband a bit more each passing week.
Summer in Duluth meant foggy early mornings at times, cool temperatures, and a steady supply of people who were in the business of buying drugs.
Mainly college students were the best customers in the fall, winter months. Spring and summer opened up the gates to expand sales to tourists and people slowly poking their heads outside, after a long winter; to only retreat right back inside for a warm, fuzzy
