    About the Author

Rose arrived in the world Norwich in 1975, shortly before moving to Nigeria, which she doesn’t remember. Daughter of a disillusioned Chartered Accountant (who later was inspired to become a vicar) and a musical mother (who frequently played piano and violin and created the best paddling pool parties ever), she moved house and schools a lot in the early years, wore hand-me-down clothes and soon became a Goth.

After learning to play saxophone and piano, sing, climb trees, build dens, ride motorbikes, joining her first rock band (surprisingly she was not offered a record deal), and writing plays which were mainly performed in the playground, Rose left the Isle of Wight and went to Goldsmiths University in London for a culture shock and to discover life.

She did this with great gusto for three years, discovering a fantastic Goth scene and numerous music festivals, which is probably why she only got a 2:2 in her first degree.

She then went on to do a PGCE and an MA in Theatre and Directing, created or joined several more bands, theatre groups and a Gospel choir (this time somewhat more successfully) and worked directing and teaching theatre.

Rose’s final Goth band took her to California, the home of the man she was in love with. Later that year he committed suicide. This taught Rose to value time, people and above all to celebrate every moment that is, rather than mourning the moments that aren’t.

Rose moved back to London, taking a job at The Coopers Company & Coborn school of Upminster, and of course, joining another Goth band and touring—this time in the school holidays! She continued to direct, forming the U4ria Theatre company through which much fun was had and several performers inspired, many of whom still professionally perform and direct in the theatre world.

Rose also discovered that extreme sports were just as much fun as motorbikes and added this to her collection of life.

    After a few years, Rose
