    Chapter 1

The flashing lights were blinding as I forced my way through the paparazzi. They were all calling out my name, begging me to look their way for their money shot.

    Bliss! Over here!

Bliss! Tell us about your steamy relationship with Merrick Moon!

How long have you been secretly hiding your love affair?

The questions spun around me like a sick carousel. They were relentless in their asking. I couldn’t see where I was going anymore, couldn’t distinguish their voices.

I had to get through them but I was so turned around I wasn’t entirely sure which way I needed to go now. They formed a barrier around me, caging me in like a wild animal.

Someone clamped their fingers around my wrist. I tried to shrug them off but they were too strong. They tugged me along and I had no choice except to follow them.

The photographers reluctantly parted for us, reminding me of the impossible task of parting the ocean. They ebbed back slightly, just enough to give us room to walk through.

The gates of the studio came into view with the same relief as finding an oasis in the desert. I was going to make it, I could go to work and film the next scenes for our hit teen drama, Crompton High.

I was pushed through the gates and the contrast to outside was starkly apparent. It was quiet inside, no flashes, no-one yelling at me…yet.

Merrick stood in front of me, still holding my wrist, as his eyes grazed over me and searched for injuries. Are you okay? he asked. It seemed like he had genuine concern.

    I’m fine, I replied curtly.

I didn’t know why he’d bothered to rescue me from the paps when he had barely spoken to me in the last week.

    Not since we broke up.

Merrick Moon had made it quite clear that he didn’t want anything to do with me. He hadn’t muttered one word to the media about our relationship and neither had I. Despite the fact they had found out about us the same day we broke up. While the world thought we were a hot new couple, we were in fact the opposite.

I went to leave but Merrick spoke again, stopping me momentarily. How are you doing? You know, with everything?

He wanted to know how I was doing?

Maybe he should have thought about that before he broke up with me.

None of your business, I gruffly replied. It was mean, I know. But trying to be nice to my ex-boyfriend at the moment was difficult. I was still so angry with him for ending our relationship for no good reason.

    I deserved more.

I deserved the happily ever after that all the princesses received. Just once, I wanted the fairy tale. Just. Once.

Bliss, don’t be like this, Merrick pleaded. I’m just making sure you’re alright. I haven’t see you around for a few days.

Because I’d been avoiding him. Quite successfully, it seemed.

I have to go, I need to get ready. I didn’t hesitate any longer and left. Being around Merrick was bad for me. It was horrible enough to be playing a couple onscreen. Seeing him behind the cameras was just too much.

The truth was my heart ached for him. I wanted nothing more to run back into his arms and let him kiss away the pain of the last week. That’s what I wanted and it was everything I couldn’t have.

So, yeah, I was going to be mean to Merrick until it didn’t hurt any more.

It was going to be a while.

Hey, girl! You’re late, Annabelle greeted me as I reached the wardrobe department. We were all getting dressed by the fashion consultant for our show, Luke. He had an eye for detail and hadn’t dressed us wrong yet.

Sorry, I apologized. The paps had me baled up outside. You look amazing, by the way. Annabelle did a twirl for me, showing off her red sequined dress so it could catch the light and shimmer.

Thanks, it’s not bad. She shrugged but her gaping smile betrayed her love for the frock.

Luke gave me a vibrant blue dress that stopped mid-thigh. It was a little shorter than I would normally have chosen but it made my legs look great and I loved the color. Who was I
