About this ebook

The aim and purpose for writing this book is to tell the story of how God rescued me from imminent death two times during my time on this earth, and also to share some of the ways I was blessed to be a participant, promoting and working in missions to make lives better around the world. God has been, and is, my counselor and guide as I journey through this life. I desire that all who read this book will discover God’s amazing and unconditional love for them.

    Chapter One

Life for me has been good and fulfilling in spite of its trials. Looking back, I realize these trials made me a better person than I would have been had I never suffered or experienced any problems. I am now able to feel empathy for those persons who experience similar heartaches and disappointments. There are individuals who suffered far greater difficulties than those I experienced yet remained strong in their faith and trust in God. They blessed others by the courage they displayed under pressure. None of us are aware of all the miracles God performs for us on a daily basis, and only eternity will reveal all the times God protected and kept us from harm and danger as we journeyed through this life on earth.

Of God’s miracles in my life, the first obvious miracle happened when I was a baby less than a year old. According to my parents, when I started crawling and moving around I was very inquisitive, unpredictable, and active. Since I don’t think play pens or bouncy seats had been invented when I was a baby, I had to be watched constantly so I wouldn’t get into things or get hurt. It’s hard to believe, but they said I started walking when I was seven months old.

We lived in a garage apartment on Emery Street in Shreveport, Louisiana two blocks from the Louisiana State Fairground. As the name implies, our apartment was built over an unattached garage located behind the main house. Attached to the side of the garage, there was a set of stairs with railing spaced approximately twelve inches apart that led up to a small landing with four foot high railing at the entrance to the apartment.

According to my parents when the accident happened, it was an evening like most others. Dad had come home from his job as a bookkeeper at the end of his eight hour work day and they were in the kitchen talking while mom prepared dinner. Dad kept his eye on me while I played in the living room. He watched as I headed toward the screen door leading to the outside landing, never dreaming I could or would be able to exit. But, to his surprise I was out the door in a flash, and he was too late to rescue me. I fell from the landing through the rails, and onto a picket fence six feet below. Dad heard my cries and quickly ran to where I lay bleeding from an injury to the back of my head. He picked me up and ran back up the steps with me as fast as he could to find a towel or anything to stop the bleeding. He held me in his arms at the kitchen sink and washed the blood off of my face and head. It was apparent that when I fell, the back of my head had hit the top of a fence post. After I was cleaned up and assessed, my parents determined that I most likely would need stitches. Thankfully we were only two blocks from the nearest hospital emergency room. After things settled down and my lacerations had been taken care of, my parents realized what a close call it was. If I had fallen between the fence posts instead of hitting the top of one, it could have broken my neck. God was watching over me and had His eye on me like the lyrics of a popular song, "His eye is on the spar-
